Please help. I’m losing my grip on being a huge college football fan.

Yeah, the concept of being a fan of a player instead of a team or a franchise is just lost on me

    Whatever you say Pelé.

OP just do what I'm doing this year. I watched only UFs game last weekend and had a great, productive weekend not sitting on my couch.

It's been great and I'm pretty much apathetic after the opening weekend.

Honestly, you should just let go. It’s never going to be the same, and UF will never have the $$$ or the desire to compete at an elite level.

There are these massage parlors which balance the soul and purge the demons...that may help you out. Otherwise Ive found some better feelings looking at other teams less fortunate...Im talking about FSU here.

I recommend local high school sports. No, seriously. It's definitely easier if you have kids that age, but connect to a school (or schools) in your community and start supporting them. Go to events. Get involved if possible. Not just football, find out what the other sports are like and see the hard work, passion, and love of competition up close alongside your neighbors. It's a ton of fun and a lot of it very wholesome but still exciting. And like I said, if local football isn't where it's at for you, check out some of the "non-revenue" sports and discover a subculture you may have never known existed.

The Pace Patriots and West Florida Argonauts have consistently been more enjoyable to follow than UF for some time now. Neither will ever replace the Gators as my forever team, but playing well and winning more games than they lose does have a quality all its own. Admittedly, it's a little like slapping a band aide on a broken leg, but at least they're actually fun to watch and the community connection can be surprisingly powerful. No one will ever replace my Gators, but sometimes a FB fan has to take his fun where he can find it. I fervently hope that DJ at least gets a legit chance to return UF to the ranks of the fun to watch, ASAP. Signed; a local yocal reporting from a non-basement somewhere in the wilds of NW FL. :p

Awesome. My connection to Gator football seems far more nostalgia than current these days, but that's not nothing. Those memories are still precious and those connections still significant. But the game has changed so substantially, I'm way more bystander than participant these days. So I definitely sympathize with the original poster. Heck, I've barely posted for a couple years until this latest flurry. And for me, at least, local sports and spending time with kids pouring their hearts into sports they love is where it's at.

At some point you have to realize that it's all like WWE--whether it's "legitimate" sports (most especially the NFL), politics, or getting ahead at the office. Inject human bias and corruption into any system and it turns to shit. Some things just take longer than others.

Wait until every college player ever sues the NCAA into oblivion for using their likeness without pay. I know the original House or O’Bannion whoever started this but saw where Braylon Edwards and others were suing now. There will be no end cause lawyers smell blood.

It's a challenging time for those of us who have followed the Gators and college football for decades. Major changes have happened fast and there is no sign that CFB, as we have known it, is going to return.

They might as well just drop the student/athlete angle and go ahead and make them employees.

For those who weren’t watching the ND/NIU game, I can tell you that there is really no exaggeration in his take. If you haven’t seen the play in question and subsequent review, take the time to do so. If I hadn’t been watching, I wouldn’t have believed just how egregious it could get. I thought replay existed to eliminate issues like the swindle, but apparently not.

Why is that loose on you? I’m a fan of the Gators sports teams, but I also am fans of certain players while not necessarily being a fan of their teams. I loved Michael Jordan as a player but wasn’t a Bulls fan. Steph Curry is another one. I also am a fan of pretty much any Gator who goes pro regardless of their team. Anthony Richardson, Pearsall, Dameon Pierce, Tim Tebow, Rex Grossman, etc.

Since I don't watch the NFL but still wound up at Super Bowl parties every year, that was my general go to determining factor on which team to root for--who had the most Gator players.

I liked to watch Jordan play but I was always rooting against him. Steph is great to watch too. I’ve always been a Lakers fan but I can’t stand Lebraun. I do like to see gators do well but not against my Phins although I gave up on the NFL.
Of course I was a Magic Johnson fan but if he had joined the Celtics, I’d no longer be a fan of his. It’s just like tgat. Kinda like Etienne, screw tgat guy and hope he never plays for the Phins.

I like alot of players , LeBron is just such a whiny ass pansy crying all over the floor like he’s in drama class. Always getting his coaches fired and blaming his teammates. He’s just a big turnoff to me. I rooted against Jordan because he was not on my team. He’s damn sure the goat though and he never cried on the ground. I like Jordan as a player just he’s on the other team. Herschel is a nice guy and a puppy so I wasalways against him, nothing personal though.
