A parachute wouldn't begin to save a private jet with fuel starved engines that died, particularly at the altitude at which the jets died. Like I said, such a jet becomes a brick, a very, very heavy brick.

I once listened to a post crash voice recorder from a private jet that hit an antennae tower going into the Marco Island airport; the pilots made a huge approach error and clipped the guy wires holding up the tower, which severed a wing.

The jet dropped immediately, but the recording of the five seconds before it hit the ground was something I'll never forget.

Yeah!! If no traffic, I think the pilots would have.

    That was crazy.

The video in the reply below yours seems to refute this statement. The sink rate of the aircraft is almost the same as for a normal landing. It is far from being a brick.

The pilots looked to have reacted to the emergency well and ALMOST pulled off a great save. It is a tragedy that the pilots lost their lives. It does look that they did their best to avoid killing others.

Horrific. Turning that close to the ground is always problematic. The pilots basically did their best to avoid more carnage. Whole cryin shame.

    Go Gators.

I saw a video by a private pilot last night who was playing the cockpit conversation and tracking the plane and played ot out in real time. 1400ft per minute was the descent rate which is within the normal range.

This article, Jet recorded 3 warnings before crashing on I-75 in Florida, NTSB says, has some interesting details about the crash. The biggest news in the article is that both engines reported was that both engines reported low oil pressure almost simultaneously:

The plane’s flight data recorder showed that it recorded three Master Warnings ahead of the crash, according to the NTSB report. The first warning was L ENGINE OIL PRESSURE at 3:09 p.m. One second later, another warning for R ENGINE OIL PRESSURE was displayed, and a few seconds after that, an ENGINE warning was recorded.

It seems rather strange that both engines would lose oi pressure at the same time. I, not being an expert, would not think both engines shared oil or systems directly relating to oil. It may be that these warnings were an indication of some other failure.
