Pitching was outstanding. Hitting was atrocious.

In other words Cags carried the team.

Here are some numbers from the CWS through the first 12 games:

    Tennessee: OPS = .909; RPG = 8.3
    SWAC: OPS = .872; RPG = 7.3
    FLORIDA: OPS = .778; RPG = 5.5
    TAMU: OPS = .716; RPG = 4.7
    UNC: OPS = .676; RPG = 3
    NCSU: OPS = .660; RPG = 4
    Kentucky: OPS = .649; RPG = 3.3
    Virginia: OPS = .597; RPG = 2.5

It's not like most of the other teams out there were killing it offensively.

    Go GATORS!

In 2017 nobody on the Gator team hit .300 or higher. Maldonado was close at 0.299.

And I think we did OK that season.

A little different pitching situation in 2017. We didn’t need much offense.

This team was far from perfect, but at the end of the day they were one of the last three standing.

I just pointed out that you can have great success without a lot of guys hitting over 0.300.

Maybe the thing we need to improve the most is pitching and not hitting. Our pitching in 2017 was incredible. Our D was pretty good this season. Not as good as 2017 but not a real problem. And we did score a lot of runs this season somehow. Losing Cags in the line up will be a HUGE hole to fill much like losing Langford coming into this season. Whoever coached Cags the last off season needs to work with Donay. Cags K rate plummeted and was amazingly low this season for a guy that hits that many dingers. Donay needs to work on that. He is certainly strong enough to put a serious hurt on a baseball but too many K's.
