Cool! Catherine, one of the daughters of Reddin Roberts, married Harllee Bethea who moved to Florida from South Carolina and from my understanding that's how the Betheas got down here. Red's son, Lee Roy Jr. helped me out a lot with the names and history, but that was a long time ago.

My connection goes back a bit further back up the Bethea line, but there is a common ancestor. My Bethea ancestors moved from SC to Ala around 1820 or so.

Emmit Smith showed Alabama what a running back looks like as a youngster. The pros found out with the Cowboys!
Someone brought up Larry Smith, he was 6’4” great running back. Power and speed. That brings back early great memories.
I was sitting the south end zone chair back seats one game, Emmit came walking down to his seat in the south end zone. I commented to my friend, I think that is Emmit Smith, he is short. We both stood up and looked him over, his thighs were stretching his blue jeans to the max. We both said hmmmm! Well history cleared that up!

    Jeff Demps

Just kidding, I love me some Jeff Demps, but he's the exact opposite of this kind of running back. If it has to be a running back, I really have to go with Emmitt Smith.

If it's any player, there's nobody I trust more to give me 1-2 yards than this guy:

To me, when it comes to the history of Gator Football, as far as running backs are concerned, there's a bunch of really good running backs that all kind of mesh together in my memory, there's a bunch of guys who clearly could have been in that bunch but were not used correctly or enough *cough* Dameon Pierce *cough* *cough*... then there's Emmitt Smith who had an excellent career at Florida and an all-time unbelievable one in the NFL.

Slightly off topic but I would like to hear FeeBart weigh in on how much fun it had to be to get Rhett on the ground.
