    If the opponent is Chicago, otherwise not.

    Fun fact: Red Bethea was supposedly recruited when a coach saw him plowing a field.

    It's sad how many of you clearly never saw Emmitt play as a pro. Again, never lost yardage. Dude could get hit three yards in the backfield and would still find a way to get it back to the LOS at the least. Guy read blocks better than any back I've seen, would just turn his shoulders and slip into the seam for an additional 2-3 yards every time. Nobody better at getting a yard than Emmitt Smith.

    so is that because of Emmitt or because Forest sucked?

    Don't know if Brantley was there at that time, but Forest was pretty good back in the day.

    Earnest Graham well worth mentioning in this thread. He wasn't flashy, but very much a reliable work horse. Heres a vid showcasing his time as a Buc:

    However, like you and many/most others, I have to give the nod to Emmitt. That guy was just special, on a different level--you could seldom see how the hell he got those yards; they'd just happen. It's like he'd just manifest on the opposite side of the LOS, then bounce off would be-tacklers, and make gains from sure losses regularly.

    My 5 deep depth chart:

    Emmitt;
    Tebow;
    Graham;
    Neal Anderson;
    Eric Rhett;

    jmho/fwiw.

    You sure that wasn't mythology similar to this:

    "Bronko Nagurski was discovered and signed by University of Minnesota head coach Clarence Spears, who drove to International Falls to meet another player. On the outside of town, he watched Nagurski out plowing a field without assistance. According to legend, Spears asked directions and Bronko lifted his plow and used it to point.[1] He was signed on the spot to play for the Golden Gophers. Spears admitted he concocted the story on his long drive back to the university in Minneapolis."

    Krauss was recruited by Dickey’s staff and was planning on signing with us until Bear came down and recruited him personally. He and Brantley as Tandem linebackers would have been tough.

    I guess you had to be there to appreciate it. There were so many plays that I thought were a loss, only to look up and 22 was gliding down the field.

    Clearly Emmitt. He’s the all time NFL rusher.

    Don’t get cute

    Willie McGrady destroying those Alabama LB's was almost as much fun to watch as the Emmitt highlights. Its a terrible shame what happened to him.

    Earnest is definitely one of my favorite Gators of all time. He wasn’t the fastest but if the ball was in his hands, it was hard to chase him down. Sad that he played behind Cadillac who the Bucs were paying a ton, Earnest was more productive than he was.

    Touché that year as I recall we were just glad to make it back in the playoffs. But Forest was much better in the 70's winning back to back FHSAA champs under Coach Brent Hall with the Brantley brothers and Tyrone Young. Not that you care much...
