He is scrappy. The real question is, does he have the genetics to bulk up? I know this is sort of racist, but he reminds me of a VERY tall marathon runner.

Always resist the urge to continue any statement that starts off with, “I know this is sort of racist but…” :D

Support for the Wil Yeguete/Gatkek comparison if I'm not mistaken

G and Y are apples and oranges. G is an absolute athletic freak that had only a little bit of basketball acumen. Y had some notion about how to play and way more than G.

I don't think you needed to preface it. All of us are limited or benefited by our ancestry/genetics. As a half polish/half irish/english lad (and inheriting my 5'8" stature from my irish maternal grandfather), I could never be a basketball player. I see your comparison to a marathon runner and it makes perfect sense. He looks that way to me. Our training staff should be able to help him put on some weight without losing his quickness. Afterall, that's their job.

On the assist, he thread the needle between 4 Dores . . . . 2 near the 3-point line and 2 bear the basket.

A senior Brett Nelson, but without the great years before that.

    He doesn't need weight.

He needs more reps on the floor.

Phlandrous, when he's on, may be our best player.
If he's on vs. UK, and we get solid games from everyone else and a great night from 3 by Myreon, we might win that game.

Wish he had an extea year, but I imagine he’ll be able to make decent money in Europe.

FL was a good move for him.

Hard disagree, by year 4 sure, Yeguete was a completely different player, but as a true freshman the comparison of Gatkek as a long athlete with limited experience and a focus on defense and being utilized in the pressing game is pretty obvious to me. Gatkek definitely has better hands already IMO

Tried and true tactic! Personally, I wasn’t racist against white people until I married one. :D

Look up Comedian Henry Cho and his bit about marrying a girl from Arab, Alabama.
Pretty funny stuff about a minority marrying into a white family. :D

If my grandma was still around, she'd make Phlan some cuban flan. Only winners got treated to that. She'd probably put something special in it and call it the Phlan Flan.

This has been a peeve of mine, too many athletic twigs trying to be made into basketball players.
I like Gatkek and he has been able to help us to a couple of highlights in some of our late season resurgence. He gets knocked around due to his stature and playing under the hoop. His quickness is insane and his hands are good. He can score around the basket. Hopefully he develops his body to be a little more muscular and somehow gain some weight. His instincts are so good that he looks dumb sometimes because he is so quick. Added weight and muscle would help and learn to box out if at all possible. LOL, that said I hope he makes Oscar frustrated from his swatting at the ball every time he is on the court. We can only hope he will be able to get some added weight and learn basketball acumen that he needs to be a Dennis Rodman type big!
