We can talk all day about what may or may not happen. Nobody knows for certain if he’d be a good, bad, or mediocre OC. I just happen to think he has the qualities of a good coach. As far as saying his success was largely due to physical attributes… I disagree. It definitely took him to the next level, but if you only judged Tebow based upon his passing stats, he’d still be one of the greats. He could absolutely shred a defense with his arm in college and even periodically in the NFL.

A lot of his passing ability (certainly in college) was based on him ducking his head and pretending to run just before launching the ball over the heads of LB's and safeties who started to pull forward to the LOS. So it wasn't JUST his arm by itself that was shredding defenses. If he couldn't run, the LB's and safeties would not be drawn forward and those passes would have been much more difficult to complete.

As far as Tim being a good coach, I think he has a great ability to motivate people and get them on the same page. Coaches do more than that. We have absolutely no idea what kind of playcaller he would be. That needs to be developed over time. No major college program is going to take a risk on a completely inexperienced playcaller. He almost certainly needs to start at a lower level and develop his skills as a playcaller before Florida should consider him for OC.

    That makes no sense.

How can ducking your head and faking a run be the basis for your passing ability? Maybe, you are saying that he made it difficult on defenses with the fakes, but that has nothing to do with the actual act of reading the defense and making an accurate pass to the right receiver. Passing ability is not tied to pump faking.

Also, it's simply not true that he was simply launching the ball over LB's and safeties that started to pull forward to the LOS. Completely false. Did he do it occasionally, yes, but it's not all he did. He was an excellent passer, and you are not giving him credit for the sharp passing ability he had.

Tebow was a great QB, but not necessarily a great passer. I know he didn't use the head fake all the time, but the offense itself was designed with a lot of misdirection in mind, and that certainly helped confuse the defense. The threat of Tebow running kept the interior of the defense spying on him almost every play. And Tebow had multiple five-star WR's to throw to (Harvin, Hernandez, Fayson, Thompson, etc.), something no other UF QB ever had (not to mention the best OL since the Great Wall of Florida). If Tebow had no running ability, I don't think his passing game would have been nearly as prolific. He couldn't stand in the pocket and drop the ball in to receivers' hands like Danny Wuerffel and Chris Leak could (neither of those two were a running threat). I thought the Cincinnati game (his last) was Tebow's most consistent passing performance, but that was an over-rated defense--nothing like the SEC defenses of the time. Denying that Tebow's physical attributes were a major contributor to his college success is just silly.

But that still does not change the fact that, even if Tebow were a great passing QB, it would not guarantee that he would be a great QB coach, much less qualify him as a capable offensive coordinator.

Maybe the media puked on because negativity sells and they are all jealous because they are dorks like Findmom. They aren’t athletes, they are the geeks that write stuff to stir up shit to make a living.

He was a good passer but his running along with our other runners kept a lot of the opposing defense near the los and he faced a lot of single coverage because of that. I’m not argues against him just stating the facts. I think he would have been successful in the nfl if they had let him develop a few years. As long as his body held up to his punishing style of play and he was given the skill players, he may have developed. Running qbs are the fad now. He probably would have gotten a better shot today.

Danny probably had better skill players. Taylor was the difference.

Tebow wasn’t simply a “good passer”. By objective measures, he was an elite passer.

You’re going through a lot of mental gymnastics to explain away Tebow’s prolific and elite passing statistics. We don’t do that for everyone else. Is Caleb a great passer because of his mobility? Pat Mahomes a great passer because defenses are afraid of his running? You can’t just discredit a dual threat QB’s passing because defenses have to pay attention to their running. If you do, then you need to be consistent and apply it to everyone… not just Tebow.

As far as his passing not being a guarantee that he would be a great QB coach or OC, I don’t get why you brought that up, because I didn’t say it was a guarantee. I simply gave my opinion.

I believe there is more to it than that but I think that is a factor. As David Lee Roth once said about music critics, “the reason they like Elvis Costello more than they like Van Halen is because they all look like Elvis Costello.” I don’t think the sports media is any different.
