Thank you for sharing this!! You've certainly had a lot to deal with. Glad you're not giving up on it--indeed ADHD has effects. I know some people think it's over-diagnosed or that people use it as an excuse (both of which can often be true), but having experienced numerous effects to this day, I know it comes with legit issues that aren't just some made up psych issue. But understanding should make you feel better because then you can work with what's going on in your head, not against it, which beating yourself would be working against.

2.0% of Danish GDP. Not since coastal raids...

If you need a newsy example of how innovation can drive economic growth, the good people of Denmark are providing a pretty clear example. In the first half of this year, Danish GDP rose at a 1.7 percent annualized rate thanks to the contribution of Novo Nordisk, the drug maker responsible for anti-obesity blockbusters Ozempic and Wegovy. Without soaring production and profits at Novo Nordisk, Danish GDP would have shrunk by 0.3 percent.

⚕ Weight-loss drugs seem like another bit of sci-fi becoming fact

I won’t speak for anyone else, but Saxenda has been magnificent for me. I’ve been overweight for 48 of my 56 years. I’ve lost 100 pounds twice, 85 two other times and 59 more times than I can count. Always came back as soon as I stopped the specifics of the program. I admit my weight gain as a kid was on me, but I really think — and research backs it up — that once your fat your body wants to stay fat.

Regardless, I’ve been on Saxenda for seven months and have lost 75 pounds. No insurance coverage for it so it’s costing me $1151 a month, or about a hundred bucks per pound lost. Still a while to go, but I’m grateful for it.

I don’t think I do. Reduce the dosage to 1/3 and see how that works. Still a few hundred a month, but it f it works, it works.

Like all of these drugs, if you don't change your lifestyle choices and stick to them, you will gain the weight back. These drugs are tools not miracles.

I figured that it would only be a matter of time, this morning I saw the first television commercial from a law firm soliciting plaintiffs who may have suffered the conditions described in the original post of this thread for a (I assume potential at this point in time) class action lawsuit against Novo Nordisk the manufacturer of Wegovy/Ozempic.

We've learned that when we lose weight our fat cells shrink and are not "burned". Those fat cells are just waiting for the chance to reinflate. To have your body eliminate those fat cells takes years of diet and exercise as it works at a very slow pace

The stuff I’ve read suggests that the number of fat cells stays constant after about 20. Even after liposuction, the body replaces those cells.

The drugs also stimulate the burning of fat(through cellular apoptosis), this is why people lose inches as well as weight and their body fat% drops.
It is generally recommended to excessive as well and lean to more of a keto diet.

We actually ran the nova nordisk phase 3 trial for about 4 years.
Results were very good. Many people were able to drop their DM meds, lower of drop their HTN/chole meds.
Very few had to stop due to nausea or gastorparesis.

See if you can find a place that uses a compounding pharmacy, not sure if that’s an option for that one. It’s way cheaper doing it that way as other have suggested.

Seems to me regardless of weight loss strategy you have to have an idea of what you are taking in and expending calorically. For me I track what I eat daily. If I stop doing this, I will almost assuredly gain weight back. I would think the same would be true for people on these meds - if they stop the meds and have no way to make sure they are in caloric balance they will likely gain it back.

Not sure how they would have a case against the manufacturer as all these side effects are clearly listed.
Furthermore if you’re using it off label I would think you may have a tough time filing an action.
Not sure as I’m not a lawyer

O now being shown to decrease kidney disease. results sent stocks of dialysis companies tumbling

Ozempic: Novo Nordisk Weight Loss Drug May Tackle Kidney Failure - Bloomberg

Novo Nordisk A/S diabetes drug Ozempic showed surprisingly early effectiveness in a kidney-failure study, sending shares of the world’s biggest dialysis providers tumbling. An independent data monitoring committee recommended halting the study after an interim analysis showed the drug hit an efficacy goal, Novo said late on Tuesday. The Danish drugmaker will get full results of the study once the process of closing it is complete. That’s expected by the first half of 2024.

German dialysis provider Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co.’s shares plunged as much as 24% in Frankfurt, the most on record, at one point erasing over €2.5 billion ($2.7 billion) in market value. Baxter International Inc. and DaVita Inc. fell 6.3% and 18% respectively in US trading. Novo shares rose as much as 4.5% in Copenhagen, its biggest one-day move in two months. Shares of Eli Lilly & Co., which makes a similar drug for diabetes, rose 3.6% at 10:02 a.m. in New York.

The impact of Ozempic and a sister drug for obesity, Wegovy, looks likely to stretch into fields far beyond obesity and diabetes. Another large study recently showed that Wegovy cut the risk of heart attacks and strokes. And Walmart Inc. said last week it’s seeing an impact on grocery demand from people taking the drugs and other appetite-suppressing medications.

Stopping the trial early points to a “somewhat faster effect than we had previously contemplated,” Citigroup Inc. analyst Veronika Dubajova wrote in a note. Kidney disease is one of the areas where drugs like Ozempic could help reduce the number of patients over time, she said.

It just shows how harmful obesity is and even taking a drug with non trivial side effects is better than remaining obese.

As to Walmart having less business, expect companies to start using it as an excuse in earnings releases, similar to Covid, 9/11, financial crisis, etc.
