Players and coaches appear to be overthinking. Just play the game - fewer rotations, fewer plays, fewer options. These slow things down. Lethargy has haunted us for years. Put your best players on the field...leave them. Pick your best plays...stick with them. Football isn't rocket science...KISS.
Sonny Dykes last year. First year Buffs after a 1-11 season Need to not make it simpler/ better execution.
Buffs have no depth (no rotation) and had their receivers go long (just a couple plays used)...KISS...like I said
Billy still calls the plays for the offense. It might be time for him to consider a change, based on what we saw Thursday night.
I see what you're getting at about the confusion and hesitancy, it was plain to see. For whatever reason(s), be it inexperience, nerves, over-much complexity or poor preparation, this team wasn't ready to compete and that needs to change ASAP. At least reaching some degree of competence in the not-too-distant future is not too much to ask IMO.
Watched a lot of football yesterday. we were by far the worst prepared power 5 team all weekend. South Carolina was a close 2nd.
This topic is definitely picking up some momentum. The vast majority of the Fanbase likes the direction the program is going in with the culture, recruiting and the organization. An example of why Billy needs an OC is clock management and spotting out illegal formations. When he is calling the plays, he will call play then he’s looking down at his play sheet to figure out what he may be doing next versus making sure everyone’s lined up properly and we aren’t running out or time. Going into the fourth quarter Thursday there were 22 seconds left in the third quarter and we couldn’t get one more extra play off before the quarter ended. At that time we were down by 21 points. It’s the little things that are holding this program back and it seems Billy is stretched too thin. Most like Billy and he has the goods to make it work. Find an up and coming OC like you did with Armstrong and just “Let it Go!”
People don’t like what they see and plane it on play calling - perhaps out of ignorance. I liked a lot of what was called in that game. Execution wasn’t good a lot of the time
It was game 1. The team was not on their regular football week schedule. They had to leave earlier than expected because of the hurricane. Plus the team wasn’t playing a cupcake team. Utah isn’t a world beater team but their coaching staff has been together for a very long time. Our coaching staff has less than two years on the job. We had miscues and mistakes. We did have lack of rhythm on offense but the defense was better than last year. The defense will have to carry us until the offense catches up. We have great players on both sides of the ball and we can expect the young guys to make mistakes until they are seasoned. I don’t want a team filled with transfers that is a short term fix but won’t help in the long run. We need a stable program that is filled with high school recruits not someone’s leftovers who play for one year and then they are done! I know we live in an instant society but the building of a team is not always instant and it isn’t without mistakes. Billy is building a great foundation that will last for years! Let us as fans and supporters let him finish the building! We can’t keep firing and hiring coaches every three years this must stop! The powers that be have opened the bank to provide the necessary resources for Billy to build the program and they are the ones who will determine who is let go and who will come to coach. Not you or me. We must support our team thru the good times and the bad. SOS took a ranked team to Mississippi State and it was 30-0 at half Mississippi State. We lost that game. SOS left our program because fans did not or could not abide 10 win seasons! Think on that.
I like this. Just line up and make plays. Too much looking at sidelines and trying to figure out what to do.
I dont think I was watching the same game as everyone else. Offense settled in moved the ball well. In the red zone 3 drives were killed by false start penalties. We missed a field goal. Defensively, we had 1 mistake by a safety on the first play, 1 slip by a backer that led to a qb rushing td. Otherwise defense played well most of the night. Defense got penetration, even if they didn't get sacks they were there. They identified screens and defended them well. Special teams had a jersey blunder, and a freshman mistake taking the punt on the 5. The game wasn't that bad. We could have easily won. As far as people saying "oh backups were in" fine, but they have been practicing with 1st team for a while. So relax, it wasn't that bad.
Utah’s D was pouring into our backfield. Our O-Line was badly mauled. 13 yards rushing. Of course we can turn it around. But let’s not pretend it wasn’t bad.
True, but he can get Tom Herman or Frost on the staff as analysts, see how they fit, and promote them after the season
You were watching the same game as everyone else. You just refuse to see what really happened - a mediocre to bad OC/QBC prepared and called a game that's filled with mistakes against an average D with a weak secondary. UU's D can get better as the season goes, but right now they are average at best comparing to SEC teams.
