I believe it will raise prices for anyone who benefits from illegal labor. I'm sure it will affect my family but we shouldn't be tolerating illegal labor. IF we need that labor, we need to find an efficient way to make it legal.

No, it hurts anybody that uses low skilled labor, regardless of their legal status. And every consumer benefits from illegal labor.

Republicans have no interest in efficient immigration systems. They are trying the cut legal immigration level using economic central planning instead of markets.

That's quite literally what we were doing for decades, with things like deferred action/DAPA, DACA, protected status for refugees of certain origin, etc. I think its conservatives trying to make asylum claims, protected status, even green cards essentially illegal or revocable. Most of these people are temporarily legal and allowed to work, in a sort of limbo while their status is either deferred or in process. Of course the most efficient way to make it legal would be a widespread amnesty for people who register or who are already registered with the government.

How does it affect cheap legal labor?

If you're saying that republicans love cheap labor and have contributed to the problem of illegal immigration, I agree. That's why they drug their feet on 'the wall' during Trump's first term.

Well considering the number of illegals, whatever they've been doing isn't working very well. I doubt very many people have issues with people here legally doing crummy jobs.

Because pricing is endogenous. There isn't a market free price for that labor.

No, I'm saying Republicans hate legal immigration and want to see it cut.

Legal Haitians do a crummy job and the VP accuses them of eating their neighbor's dogs. So yes, it seems like they have an issue with legal residents doing crummy jobs.

Like I said, I think this is more to do with conservatives declaring people claiming asylum legally (as well as other people not here illegally) as "illegals"

So your theory is that, when conservatives say 'illegals', they're referring to legals.

As we've established early in this thread, the number of deportations isnt anything unusual at this time. At the moment it seems Republicans are testing what they can get away with with select people - green card holders who write op-eds, gay barbers with tattoos, etc.

There are a whole bunch of people in this country (and outside it in fact, because we got Mexico to harbor them) that are in a quasi-legal status where they are awaiting due process as asylum seekers, and yes, conservatives have decided that is not a thing that should be legal and are seeking loopholes around that or in some cases, outright evading the law, because they've decided its inconvenient or not working to their liking.

I was a republican for like 30 years and I never got any indication that they opposed legal immigration. Why would they? They love people who work and drive the economy so they can make money.

Translation: you are okay with lobbing unsupported allegations at legal immigrants to make their neighbors hate them.

skilled trade future is in repairs. a robot can build something, diagnosing and repairing is different when no longer in a controlled environment. At that point, they become assistants at best
