    Just my two cents worth here, but the absolute best to rehydrate with is water—if I’m drinking bottle water I prefer spring water over the other options.

    Gatorade is great for hydration but you’re taking in a ton of sugar—if you will option to their G2 it is lighter in taste, hydrates just as well, and contains only half the sugar of regular Gatorade.

    An option for sweet tea that I have used after kidney stones and my urologist more or less insisted on change has been the little squirt bottles of MIO sweet tea flavor—a couple of squirts of it in a regular size tea glass is all it takes. It is available at most expected venues such as grocery stores, Walmart, CVS, Target, etc.

    I used to bike race and train. Not much racing in the middle of the summer in Florida because it was too hot, but lots of training. After the last race of the spring it was back to long steady miles for a month or so. Then starting to build back to race readiness.

    Straight Gatorade was too full of salts and sugar and caused me to have stomach cramps. If heavily diluted it was OK. No electrolytes with pure water didn't work for me as my electrolyte balance got way off. For me one part Gatorade and two parts water worked well if I went that way. Normally I ate foods with the electrolytes and drank water instead. On long rides (80 to 100 miles) I ate a salted baked potato and drank a lot of water on the road as well as having the mid-ride break at a country store. If I wanted to not stop in the middle I had some PB&J in my jersey pocket for the mid-ride meal.

    Chocolate milk is a great recovery drink.

    And after rehydrating beer is not a bad option. LOL.

    Broiled salmon and steamed broccoli tonight.
    We were in Europe last month—a friend told us about a Nestle green tea in a bottle. Lightly sweetened, quite refreshing on ice. Don’t know if it’s sold here. Global food marketing is interesting

    I know you to be a precise writer. Does the above indicate that sweet tea is more dangerous that unsweet in regard to kidney stones?

    The sweet part only makes it easier to drink a lot of it.

    I’ve got a 12 lb. shank ham going on my ol’school Cajun Cooker barrel smoker set up on the back carport for tonight’s supper. Using it because we’ve had to move everything out from under my cook porch as our new roof is being finally completed behind Hurricane Michael—we are enlarging the back porch as we now have to create our own shade. Going from a wood porch to solid concrete—it’s going to be a great improvement.

    Sides will be homemade potato salad, deviled eggs, fresh zipper peas, and spiced apples.

    Desert will be Ms. Jan’s homemade fresh Ga. peaches peach cobbler AND homemade churn peach ice cream.

    The back porch Yeti is temporarily moved to the back carport but is fully stocked and ready to go—

    Good luck with your construction work, 74. Sounds fantastic. Just as the ham and fixin's do, as well! YUM!

    My back patio is concrete and it's great! Been here for 22 years and finally decided to put a canopy over it last year. Best decision I've ever made during ownership here! What is really crazy is it faces west and has always cooked back there from the afternoon sun/heat during the warm season here....yet it took me 21 years before putting a canopy up.

    I plan to replace my roof this coming winter when it's much cooler. Hopefully Jan/Feb. Going to go with metal (aluminum standing seam) to replace the existing asphalt shingles.

    Now my outside shower - it has wood flooring and will be replaced in the very near future. I will stick with wood there though.

    Just finished another on my salads I made Saturday night. 2 left now. Absolutely delicious! The cranberries and almonds really make a difference.

    Headed back to work shortly - right after Gunsmoke ends. :)

    Was talking to my oldest brother the other day and he said he likes V8 juice as a chaser whenever he has a beer. :D

    One of my college roommates introduced me to tomato juice and beer. It sounds really weird, but it’s tasty. You get the beer flavor (and alcohol), but the tomato juice smooths out the taste. Never done it with V8 (which I drink daily) but regular tomato juice works well

    Never can get used to spatchcock just doesn't sound tasty guess I should just grow up lol maybe butterflied sounds better

    The chicken was awesome. Surprisingly the legs and thighs were done early so I took them off and then cooked the rest for about 10 more minutes. Usually the white meat is done first. WTF.

    I havent been cooking much lately as work has been crazy and then tryouts on weekends. Finally settled on the new baseball home and I hope we made the right decision. Ive coached my team since we were 9 years old but its time for them to all make their own way now. Having some family in town this weekend for a Braves game and lake time. Im sure we will be grilling and swilling to make up for lost time.

    As far as hydration, we switched to Powerade Zero a couple years ago. I still have to dilute it because its too sweet, but Im not a huge fan of sweet drinks. Well other than sweet tea of course. I aint trying to get kicked out of my family. LOL

    Using my ham bone from the shank ham I smoked Monday for a mixed bean soup—grilled cheese sandwiches (hoop cheese is a must here) to go with—all the left over ham went to North Georgia with Ms. Jan for her, Alan, Kayla and Magnolia Grace—

    Ice cold longnecks under our new and enlarged back porch really “cap” the afternoon/evening off just right—looking forward to the concrete deck to be finished next week—

    Going to a friend's house for dinner. Bringing a growler from a local brewery as well as a big pot of bow tie pasta with homemade pesto.
