I’m with you. I enjoy food too much to blow it off as a chore. Just getting used to the grind again. I’ll figure it out. But appreciate the pep talk :) … I probably needed it.

Dinner plans are off. A close family friend unexpectedly died today. More important things to do.

tenderloin baked or on the grill? Is it stuffed? I baked a chorizo stuffed tenderloin years ago from one of the 'pub recipes. It was amazing.

Rarely do I come thru here and I didn't know where to post this so here goes. We have a few guys from Ocala so this is mostly for them.

Tonight my wife and I went to the newly refreshed Fats Boys BBQ between Ocala and Silver Springs on Hwy 40 that got its start way back in 1970. I still remember going there as a kid and now they have new owners. Rarely do I post complaints about food but what a let down. The old standard Fat Boys was never anything great but good food at a low price BBQ, plain and simple. Now they have a model similar to 4Rivers and it ain't worth going. I had their standard two meat plate and went with brisket and ribs with 4 cheese mac and cheese and baked beans. The brisket was cut wrong which made the meat feel like strings and very chewy. What's worse it had very little flavor. My wife thought the same. The ribs I got must have been the ends because most of the meat had only small bits of bone and cartilage. The mac and cheese reminded me of Krafts creamy you can get at Sams but only one cheese. Beans were okay but not the preferred BBQ beans you get at most BBQ joints. My wife liked the chicken, green beans and jalapeno corn bread she got. Even the sweet tea was barely sweetened. Altogether the bill for two was just over 40, similar to many places.

For me the best BBQ in Marion County is Artman's Country Smokehouse way down in Summerfield. it's worth the drive. If you get there before 5 you can get an early bird dinner plate for around 11 bucks. My favs are the brisket, corn casserole, mac and cheese, or bbq beans. Meats are some of the best around but the sides are best I've eaten anywhere. Its not very big and in the middle of no where, so you might have to stand until a table opens. So get there early. And yes I like Artman's better than Big Lee's.

Have you tried brick city yet? Great bbq and great whiskey selection. The one in Gainesville is called hog town. It’s my favorite bbq in town by far. We tried their mojo food music and soul place last time we were in Ocala. It’s kind of an interesting take on like a bbq tex mex. It was ok. I like their bbq joints better, but I would eat there again.

Yes a few times. We were comparing the two as we ate and thought I'd go there in a heartbeat before coming back. I actually like the Mojo's BBQ in ST Augustine better than the one in Ocala. I don't live to far away from the Southern Pig in Ocala off of Maricamp Rd and frequent it most often. Nothing great, simple BBQ but good food and a decent price, like Sonny's of the olden days. I will give Fat Boys another try some day after they get time to adjust but I'll keep them on a short leash.

I have heard good things about Pearl's in Micanopy. Never had it but when I used to train for bike racing I would sometimes enter the convenince store and it smelled really good. Always a line to get some.

The best BBQ in Gainesville is prepared in my driveway.

Wife and MIL out of town visiting my oldest boy in Delaware whilst I stay home dog tending.

My youngest son and I went to see Asteroid City today (he is a movie buff) so I didn't cook before the game. We are having Dick's burgers instead.

If you like Wes Anderson you'll like Asteroid City. If you think that his films are weird you should pass on it.
