    We are also a New Years Eve couple. Never forget the date, but have lost track of the year a couple of times. Think it’s our 34th.

    My wife was sick on Christmas so we’re having the dinner on New Years. Turducken with stuffing, yellow squash with bacon and onions, tomatoes and basil. My wife will probably bake pecan pie to go with vanilla ice cream (none for me—too sweet and vanilla is—wait for it—boring, aka “vanilla “)

    Making split pea soup with the leftover ham bone from Christmas… with homemade croutons. Adding bacon as well.

    Didn’t share last nights dish, but my wife took over and made eggplant parm which was outstanding. With all the bowl games and playoffs it was nice to have her handle the kitchen yesterday.

    Tonight we’re going to have a spiral cut Honey Baked Ham, mashed potatoes, butter peas, black eyed peas, and biscuits.

    Today we’ve had heavy fog, and light rain on and off with temps pretty much in the 50’s.

    Adult beverages are available on the pick your preference format.

    Making pasta with arugula, scallions and hot Italian sausage. Also with garlic, fennel seed, lemon zest , reggiano parmigiano, oliva oil and salt.

    Tonight we’re going to be having chicken’n’rice— we have a couple of folks feeling a little bit under the weather behind those four days of hard cold and wind we had Christmas week.

    So everyone has agreed chicken’n’rice is a good call. Rain and foggy here pretty much all day long. A hot apple spice-cider is available for whoever chooses, otherwise all choices are available too.

    It’s that time according to available refrigerator space—tonight it will be a full smorgasbord of leftovers.

    We had pretty heavy fog today lasting until about noon time. Thunderstorms are due to roll in here tonight and pretty much last most of the day tomorrow.

    Speaking of things Cajun, like etouffee, I am making jambalaya tonight with shredded smoked chicken left over from making enchiladas and linguica sausage left over from making some things to take over to our friends' house for New Year's Day brunch. We made most of the things for breakfast tacos and also brought Frexinet Brut, a very dry Spanish cava or sparkling wine, for mimosas. Nobody would confuse Frexinet Brut with a high end French champagne but it is perfect for making mimosas at a fraction of the price. At its price point ($10 to $11) it is an amazing sparkling wine deal. Way better than Korbel.

    The jambalaya is a quick dinner before going to the Gator basketball game.

    Tonight we’re going to be having one of our favorite Mexican style dishes for supper. It will be Fajita Chicken Chili—so good and supper in a bowl—served over rice and oh, so good!

    The vote is in-the girls are doing Moscow mules-and the boys are going with Kentucky mules. A lot rain the last 24 hours.

    A step up that won't break the bank is Roederer Estate Brut from Anderson valley in California. It will be about twice the price of Frex but nearly as good as their French champagne which is almost another doubling in price from there.

    It is my go to champagne for just drinking champagne even though it really isn't a champagne because it doesn't come from there. It does taste exactly like a good sparkling wine from Epernay. In a side by side tasting with their French champagne we can taste the difference, but it is small.

    The folks at Roederer knew what they were doing in California.

    Last night I tried a recipe for caramelized cabbage from Bon Apetite and it was a disaster. I threw it out and we got Thai take-out instead. Maybe trying it with Napa cabbage ws the problem but that was an option in the recipe.

    Tonight we are defrosting a pan of smoked chicken enchiladas that we made not so long ago. Margaritas as the dinner drink.

    We have Alan’s birthday party celebration on tap for tomorrow so we just picked up supper from Alby’s Chinese tonight—

    Back in the low 40’s to mid 30’s day and night here.

    Elijah Craig in a tumbler for me tonight-the girls stuck with their wine.

    Cuban pulled pork in the slow cooker tonight. I had corn tortillas, homemade pico, rice & beans.

    My son flew down to Jax this morning to watch the Jags play tonight. He flies back tomorrow. He’s already asked about the leftovers
