Dinner at Mom's was really great! All the food turned out fantastic and Mom and I had a nice visit just the two of us.

I have to also say using those takeout containers was genius! When we were done just snap on the tops and into the fridge they went!

I only had one plate and was too full to eat any pie. Mom left some on her plate so she'd have room. SMART lady! :)

    Making chicken piccata tonight.

Tomorrow smoking a turkey and making brussels sprouts (individual leaves so a lot of prep) with shallots and pistachios. My wife is making other sides.

Our spread for Thanksgiving is about as southern traditional as we can make it.
Alan has smoked a Smithfield whole ham as well as a HoneySuckle turkey.

Our sides are Ms. Jan’s cornbread dressing with a pressure cooked hen chipped up in it, cream 40’s & butter beans, sweet potato dumplings, fresh turnips, giblet gravy, Watergate salad, deviled eggs, and freshly baked yeast rolls.

There are 3 pies (pecan, pumpkin, and apple-all homemade) for dessert.

There is a variety of wines, col’beers, and top shelf bourbons to enjoy as well.

Wishing everyone the best of the Thanksgiving Holiday season!

My SIL made a side recipe from the NYT for a vegetarian option that was Persian. Very tasty. It was very good paired with smoked turkey, but it would have been killer with braised lamb shanks with a pomegranate molasses based sauce.

If you are ever in the Orlando area you need to eat at The Bosphorous in Winter Park. Incredible Turkish cuisine. But a bit pricey and hard to park.

Doesn't get better than this, gentlemen!

BTW, last night during the Egg Bowl I was also watching "The Wizard of Oz" on TBS. Been a long time since I watched it. What an amazing movie!

    Cheers! :emoji_beers:

OMG! Watching The Wizard of Oz was an annual thing when I was a kid. Since we had black and white TVs I didn't get the transition for being in Oz until much later.

Like Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) who wrote Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass he wrote children's books that were really for adults. Kind of like Rocky and Bullwinkle.

There was an “American Masters” documentary about Baum on PBS earlier this year.

I minored in US history as an MA student and we had an interesting lecture on Wizard of Oz in a course on Social and Intellectual History

    Of course.

Probably had Orwell and stuff other than 1984 and Animal Farm, which I love. Down and Out in Paris and London and Homage to Catalonia are great.

Tonight it will be fried backstrap, freshly made Romaine salad topped with vine ripe tomatoes, and French fries.

Had a family trip to a Christmas Tree Farm in Ballground, Ga. today-Magnolia Grace was thrilled!

Ice cold longnecks and chilled wine are available as desired.

Tonight is turkey barley chili. I think that is the end of the turkey. My SIL is a vegetarian and even she said that the turkey looked and smelled great. And it tasted even better.

Speaking of smoked turkey, my older brother's son smoked a turkey with cherry wood. I asked my brother what kind of smoker it was and he said it was electric so not a kamado or any old school offset that I know of. I wonder if it is a pellet smoker. I will figure it out.

Last night we had some defrosted chicken enchiladas from the last time I smoked a chicken.

Sometime this week I am taking delivery of a Blue Star gas range (Culinary Series with open burners). I just cleaned underneath my old GE range that has been there for about 20 years. Not as bad as I thought it would be.

I have a 3-phase outlet there and thought about springing for a dual fuel range (gas cooktop and electric oven) but neither my wife nor I bake that much to make it worthwhile to upgrade to an electric convection oven.

If we ever move the range goes with us.

My turkey is all gone now except two small containers of the soup I made and they are in the freezer for later distribution.

Now I have a YUGE hankering for something Italian - with as much cheese as is humanly possible!

Thinking something like Lasagna but even a cheese pizza would probably quench the flames of desire.

    Cheese Manicotti?

We’ve had an LG dual fuel for 20+ years and really like it. Most of our cooking is on the stovetop, but tend to bake or broil a lot in the oven. Tonight I made a meatloaf, and our Thanksgiving food was almost all done in the oven.
BTW, we bought the LG stove and an LG refrigerator at the same time. The refrigerator may be the worst appliance I’ve ever been around—going back to my parents’ post—WW2 appliances

Tonight we are going to be grilling bone-in country cut ribs indirect over cherry wood smoke.

Inside we will be working on finishing up the Thanksgiving sides-we will have cream 40’s & butter beans, rice, and sweet potato dumplings.

Adult libations are available as desired.

Tonight we’re going with a supper to suit the weather-White Chicken Chili (we add black beans) topped with Tex-Mex shredded cheese and whole wheat tortilla scoops.

Resupplied on our preferred adult beverages—
