Outside the dugout: What's cooking?

If you had finished your descriptive with “wrapped in bacon” I think I would have truly laughed out loud!

 

All of my 31 years with FHP you had days, evenings, relief, and midnights....evenings was 3pm—12am. That meant you had 2 hours of daylight to work in and then it was like another midnight shift.

I know the common argument was the children going to school in the morning in the dark. But, IMHO those drivers that were out were drinking coffee enroute to work. The back side of that was, well, you know.

 

I don't really mind the time changes. When I was working full time though the 'spring ahead' part kinda sucked in the mornings for the first week or so...lol.

Hmmm....glazed carrots. Well I do have a brand new bag of baby carrots, a whole bottle of Tupelo Honey, and butter.

 

Our weather forecast was actually spot on for a change. Our low was 38*—it was mild and sunny with a high of 64*—mowing the yard was actually quite pleasant.

With the cooler weather it just seemed like the thing to do. Tonight we are going to have chili over rice topped with Sargento shredded sharp cheddar cheese.

Ice cold longnecks and chilled wine always match up well for us with this meal. Hope everyone’s afternoon/evening is a good one.

Tonight we’ll be grilling wings with a cold tray as our side. Simple, but always oh, so good.

Our days continue to be quite pleasant—perhaps a touch warmer (52* for a low/74* for a high) but very much diminished humidity. This makes our outside work in our yard much more comfortable.

The back porch time this time of year is quite enjoyable as we watch the day wind down into its sunset. An adult refreshment or two always adds to the relaxation of this time of day.

I hear ya about the sleep loss, Lurk. I feel like I've been in a funk all week. But this afternoon got back on track and now feeling back in the groove, thankfully. I woke up Tuesday morning with a killer headache which never fully went away until Wednesday. The saving grace has been the weather with those lower temps and humidity.

Friend of mine called this morning and said he and his partner are going down south tomorrow to pick up palms. Some nice Spindles and also Cuban Royals and a few other odds and ends. I told him I'm full up at the moment but thanks anyway. I'm giving him some of my purple Crinums when he gets back. I need to make more space here.

I've also been thinking about the prospect of putting a small cottage on the property for my Mom to live in so we can delay her going into assisted living more. Right now she's still in her own home about a 10 minute drive from me. Too far for what I envision would be the best care she could get without going into a facility. I contacted the city here and got the details on their requirements, all of which can easily be met. This concept has a couple names....ADU's and also Granny Pods. I'm going to get some cost info together and then give it some more thought. Will talk to Mom at some point too, of course, if I feel it's a viable option.

You can get modular homes now but I also know a few builders here so there's also some options.

One good thing about he new time change is when working on landscape lighting you can start on it earlier.

Can't wait for the game Saturday - I think we'll do well.

We are going with round 2 on the pot of chili that I made earlier in the week. I think like most all meat sauces chili always seems to be really good the second time you heat it up.

Again, it’s served over a bed of rice and topped with Sargento shredded sharp cheddar. I have to say that I would be remiss if I didn’t say that there will also be chili cheese dogs for lunch Saturday.

Both of these meals go quite well with ice cold longnecks, so there ya go! Ms. Jan I’m sure will stick with her chilled wine.
