    Lurk—

I think we both learned a long time ago (as a ball player/former ball player) never ask an umpire OR a scorekeeper their opinions because rarely are you going to agree with them...;)

Of course this does not apply to @Gatorgal04:):):)

Tonight we are going to have fresh fried catfish, cheese grits, homemade coleslaw, hush puppies and homemade sweet pickles.

A bit warmer today but nonetheless a beautiful sunshiny day. The ice cold longnecks and chilled wine will be greatly appreciated and enjoyed this afternoon and evening as we watch another sunset that will be unique to itself. And oh yes—on to Game 6 tomorrow!

Making a slow cooker potato soup in the morning - the one made with frozen hash browns. I've made it before and it's delicious. You add cream cheese near the end! I didn't want it to cook overnight because I have a busy morning so will get home in the afternoon in time to finish her up.

Tonight we’re going to be having a do-over night with a big pot of spaghetti sauce. A fresh Caesar salad and 5-cheese Texas toast to go with.

We’ve had an overcast day here today, I’m guessing preemptive fronts for the coming storm.

Ice cold longnecks and chilled wine will again be available on the back porch this afternoon and evening to help out with Game 6.

Making the shrimp, arugula, citrus, fennel salad tonight. Adding shrimp was an addition to a recipe we found online. Adding some datil pepper will be another addition. I need to be careful about how much I add. I will prepare some "on the side" and let folks add as much as they want. I had my dinner last night Thai hot. It wasn't that hot as prepared, but they gave me a container of dried bird pepper to spice it up if I wanted hotter and I did. I used most of it to get what I was after. My wife ordered medium hot and my MIL wanted mild. I think that is the prudent approach.

My carnivore son wants nothing to do with this salad, so he is regulated to left over smoked chicken. As if that is a form of punishment. LOL.

Pork tenderloins were BOGO at Publix. One to the freezer and one for a sesame teriyaki marinade and stir fry tomorrow. Usually when I make that I only use one of the two pieces of tenderloin as there are lots of veggies and rice to stretch the meat, so some other pork tenderloin dish will be served soon.

The other one is in the freezer.

I hope this one is yet again "wide left" for you.

Not that I wish ill will on the folks living west of you as they have been having a really bad season.

Why can't this one seriously weaken and get out of the area really fast so there isn't a big rain event?

So tonight I’ll be grilling wings with a cold tray as an easy finger food supper ought to be the ticket for ice cold longnecks and chilled wine. And of course Game 7........

What is that start time again?;)

Tonight will be the pork tenderloin and a broccoli and Brussels sprouts stir fry with rice. We have some Brussels sprouts that need to be used soon. I decided to cook both pieces from the tenderloin package. The leftover pork tenderloin will go into escarole soup in the next few days. I made chicken stock with the smoked chicken remains for that purpose. I didn't have any celery, but I did have some leftover fennel for making the stock. I did have carrots, onion, and a whole bunch of flat leaf parsley that was getting near the end of its life. It made the house smell good all day. I ended up with 5 cups of stock so I will supplement with 1 cup of boxed chicken broth when I make the soup. Or maybe a cup of water because the stock is really rich and flavorful.

If the Rays had won would there be a game tonight with Justin Turner's positive covid test?

And if there was a quarantine Kershaw would have gotten lots of rest.

The Rays motto should be "If it wasn't for bad luck we wouldn't have any luck at all".

Still the Rays with a payroll of $28.3 million compared to the Dodgers with $107.9 million gave them strong competition.

I did see that after the fact the official scorer did assign two errors on the play. I was sleepy and still thought it was obvious.

Ms. Jan has had a big pot of 15-bean/ham bone soup simmering most of the day. The house smells great. I will be frying cornbread to go with.

The effects of this latest storm really was minimal for us. Pretty windy, but then we have no big trees anymore courtesy of Michael. We did get 3” of rain overnight but no lose of power.

Our adult libations have been enjoyed this evening.

My slow cooker potato soup turned out so good I picked up ingredients today to make another batch over the weekend.

I'm bringing Mom the last container of the first batch tomorrow.

Last night I had another of my Filets along with onions and mushrooms. I'll be on the lookout for when whole Beef Tenderloins go on sale at Publix again.

The onions and mushrooms are a fantastic companion - I wonder if there are people who eat Filet without them?

Speaking of Publix......I've never fully understood what their line of Greenwise actually means to the consumer. in terms of taste. Does it make much of a difference?

Weatherwise I'm very excited this front is moving through as it reached 90 here today and I need a break! I've been working on clearing out a decent sized section in the front yard that had become overgrown with Crinum Lilies, Cycads, and other odds and ends. I have a lot of specimens in there and really needed to thin everything out so I could get everything organized so I could care for them. I will be back at it tomorrow morning and enjoy the less oppressive conditions!

My truck AC has been cutting off and on too over the past week so today I finally traced the issue down to a worn pressure switch so picked one up from the FLAPS and $20 later she's blowing cold air again. Phew - got lucky there! :D

Gator football is back! Life indeed is good in Gator Nation!

Escarole soup tonight with caprese salad. Chilling an Acrobat pinot gris to wash it down. It is a very good pinot gris at its price point.

Tomorrow I am smoking a sirloin tip roast with glazed carrots as a side. Still learning my way around smoking beef. I think I have smoked duck and whole turkeys more often than beef. I wanted to do a lamb shoulder, but the only lamb shoulder they had at Publix were "steaks" and that wouldn't do.

Sunday is my youngest son's birthday and he loves sushi, so we are getting takeout. He also wants a Zoom meeting with family, but many of them are Bears fans so I will have to schedule it for halftime as they have a 4:30-ish kick-off.

And my son has a 25 hour birthday with the time change!

We’re going to be grilling bone-in country cut ribs indirect over cherry wood smoke. Oh yeah, Pat’s Homade on the last two turns.

Inside we’ve got a pot of fresh green beans and new potatoes and fresh bi-color cob corn. Freshly made yeast rolls will be the finishing touch to the table.

We have had a beautiful day today starting with 48* and followed by sunshine and blue skies and a High of 76*. Our afternoon and evening adult libations have surely made our outside time very pleasant.

Not cooking today as it is my youngest one's 25th birthday and he wanted sushi take out.

But I did give my KJ a much needed high temp cleaning.

Send some of that 40 degree weather this way, Bill! Cold front went through tonight so that will help.

Happy 25th Birthday to your son, Lurk! That's a great age for a young man.

Great game last night - can't tell you how pleased I am our D is headed back in the right direction. I'm actually looking forward to the WLOCP with anticipation of a win this year.

Something crazy happened today. You know - in a good way! Good friend of mine dropped by and gave me an Omaha Steaks package. That styrofoam cooler they send out filled with all kinds of meats plus some sides and deserts. He and I go back a ways - 40 years or so - and have helped each other over the years with various projects. I landscaped two homes he remodeled, including the one he's living in. It was actually on the tour of homes here a year or so after they finished it. He worked for most of his career down at the cape (he calls it rocket land). At one point he got laid off and I gave him some work with my first landscape company back in the 80's. I didn't think it was that big a deal but he still brings it up from time to time. Recently I helped him replace his irrigation pump. It was the existing one he had when we did the job and now he has a nice new Goulds GT15 (1.5HP). He paid for the pump plus fittings and the rest didn't take much work at all. Anyway - now I have a ton of food in my freezer, which isn't all that big. Good problem to have, huh?

Plus...I have a new batch of potato soup going right now so I will have something to give him as well. And my Mom, along with her weekly provision delivery.

I'm almost through the re-potting of all my sun bromeliads too and hope to finish tomorrow.

Great time of the year, isn't it? :D

Tonight we’ve got smother fried cubed steak in gravy and onions. Inside we’ve got fresh steamed green cabbage, smashed red potatoes, and some left over green beans.

I will be frying cornbread to go along with.

A beautiful day today here, the low was 47* with plenty of sunshine, and our high was 76*, a light breeze and no humidity. And they’re claiming we will have a low of 38* in the morning!

Our adult refreshments are in play on the back porch and greatly appreciated—even if it’s dark at 5:00pm....I wish they would leave time changes alone and set to daylight savings time year round...
