That is sad news, I loved The General. If you are into sports books and haven’t read the book “Knight, My Story”, you owe it to yourself. I haven’t read a ton of sports-oriented books but his could be my favorite. It’s candid, honest and laugh out loud funny. I walked away with a tremendous appreciation for Robert Montgomery Knight. He seemed like the kind of man who if he was your friend he’d be the best friend a person could ask for.

He says in the book that he was offered the Florida job and had decided to take it but after talking with his mentor Coach Taylor he decided against it because he felt he owed West Point for taking a chance on him at age 25.

    RIP and Godspeed Coach.

I was in the Superdome in 1989 when Keith Smart sank a jumper to beat Syracuse.
As a side note, Billy D was a guard for Providence coached by Rick Pitino at that Final Four.

I have always been impressed that he won three national championships.

Not many coaches have done that.

“If the NBA were on channel 5 and a bunch of frogs making love were on channel 4, I’d watch the frogs, even if they were coming in fuzzy.”

Nothing against the NBA, but that quote...lol

And so many of us agree. We see a little left of amateur sports in college. It hasn’t been totally amateur in a long time but many teams still are, we just don’t watch them.

I don’t even like basketball but Bobby Knight was a straight up badass. Had he been so inclined, he would have made an amazing football coach

For a few years after he left coaching he was an analyst for the NCAA Tournament. He was straight up outstanding in that role. RIP General.

Bob Knight would have been great at whatever he set his mind to. He was that kind of a person.

Thanks for that link. There’s some great Knight quotes there.

“Most people have the will to win, few have the will to prepare to win.”

If I counted right, out of 36 seasons at Indiana and Texas Tech, he only missed the NCAA tournament five times.

The world will remember much more fondly than the media that sought to destroy him.

    Thanks for that!

From that article: The complete picture of Bob Knight is complicated and more nuanced than it seems from the outside.

    So true!
