Impressive performance today to avenge his Aussie round of 16 loss vs Tommy Paul and make the USO quarters. Hit 149 on his serve 2x for winners.

So much upside for this kid if he continues to improve his groundies. Already has the fastest serve in tennis, terrific hands at the net and his very fast for his size.

    Go Gators!!!!

Love watching him play. The good news is he is still young. Alcaraz is clearly ahead as having the full game. But with that serve and commitment he can hopefully be the rivalry tennis will need when Djokovic finally slows down…

He's one of those people who has so much natural athleticism it can often look like he's not really trying.

Agreed. His issue will be can he get the team to use it. And I am not saying he has the wrong team. He is so young. But just hope they are able to turn it into another long term rivalry. He seems to have the fire to do it. But to be generational you have to have even more than that.

I hope both Shelton and Alcaraz have more than that…

Surprised that it has been posted yet, Ben Shelton was really impressive last night and in defeating Tiafoe he demonstrated that there is more to his game than just an overpowering serve. Novak is next although if I were to bet I would still put my money on Djokovic.

Agreed. You can’t bet against Novak unless it is Alcaraz right now. Ben will get his but Novak is a true machine. Granted he did not look his best against Fritz. Fritz was off even more though. The sun/heat may have had a little to do with that match.

I watched it live. Tiafoe gave him a lot of opportunities with unforced errors, but Shelton hit a ton of winners, too. He also had more touch than I expected with everyone so focused on his big serves. Looked like dew point was about 70. Not sure I've ever seen two players sweat that much, lol.

Very excited to see how Ben progresses over the next few years. I agree he’s got some tough sledding facing him in the next match.

After Joker quoted the Beastie Boys all bets are off in NYC.

Joker has noted the "very humid conditions" and said it was "difficult to play." Don't know the forecast, but hopefully NY gets some additional heat and humidity for Friday.

Seemed like Shelton wasn’t quite ready for the joker yet, but the gap didn’t seem insurmountable. Shelton had a little run in the third set to make it interesting.

Went as I expected. He got some. Finally got some momentum in the third. But the machine was oiled up today. Was hoping Shelton could pull off that third. But likely would have lost in four if he did. Novak is and was just too mature. Which is understandable. It is crazy he is physically able to still do it at this level with his age!

Can’t believe Medvedev won the first set with 6 double faults. This could get interesting. Think Alcaraz will still pull it out. But if Medvedev cleans up his serve…look out.

No, silly. Off-topic. I don't know why a thread title would start by announcing itself off-topic, but I have to admit it is a bold move. Now let's try to get back on the topic. What is the topic?

It's amazing he has time for sports (tennis?) when he spends so much time threatening to use nuclear weapons on the west.

    You have the wrong Medvedev!

The tennis player is Daniil and has called for peace. The political nut is Dmitry who wants potential nuclear action.
