Maybe we should start a new volleyball thread? This one goes back a few years. I'm in shock. I thought we'd have Mary at least another year. Any idea who we should hire to replace her?
Coach Mary Wise, you were awesome! It's hard to imagine seeing anyone else on the sidelines for us. I remember in the early 2000s I was attending one of these huge volleyball club tournaments in Atlanta for my daughter's team. Hundreds of teams involved. I was walking to see a match and Mary Wise was walking in my direction, deep in thought. I said, "Hi, Coach." She gave me a "Hi!" and a huge smile that lit up the convention center. She's a warm, genuine person as well as a great coach.
Shocking. I hope MW and her family are well and it is simply her decision and her time. My other hope is that the team knew and is confident on Gator futures.
First, I don't know squat about anything, as my wife constantly reminds me. But here's my opinion anyway. Of course, Mary Wise is one of the great volleyball coaches of all time, and she will be missed. I hate to see her go and wish her well. But the big question is the new coach. Knowing Mary Wise and her sense of loyalty, I would expect her to highly recommend Dave Boos. I don't know much about him, but he has an excellent resume and would be great for program continuity. I also don't know who else is available and would be a good fit. Maybe some of you could fill me in on that. But, where do we go from here?
Wow Mary is retiring!! Thank you Mary for all the years, no, decades of great volleyball! You are one of a kind!
Got to follow Nebraska's lead and go get another high profile coach. Stricklin better learn from his WBB and Soccer blunders.
In my honest opinion, Stricklin CANNOT ignore the players on who they want. Kennedy Martin already posted a tiktok stating how disappointing it was that the Associate HC dave booth was not the 1st choice. I believe he (Dave Booth) is the best choice to keep the team together tbh, the girls seem to love him. Anyone else is a huge risk to lose players to the portal.
