So South Carolina just took the lead over Arkansas, after being down 0-4.

From a Gators' perspective for final year NCAA rankings hoping that we snag a top 8, how do we figure out who to root for? Do we want a team that beat us to win to help our RPI? Or do we want the higher-ranked team to lose?

(.....and I know that any rule of thumb does not apply to FSU who we *always* want to lose)

I think the simplest thing to root for is our Gator Girls. If they do their job every little thing will be alright.

I was at the orange and blue game so not following along that closely. Reviews seem to remove any common sense or discretionary rulings and go straight to binary. It either is or it isn’t. Am I correct in that it was a review that led to the leaving early ruling? Illegal pitch was the call on the field?

Tomorrow means nothing. Win, great, loss, who cares.

Bama, @LSU, OU left. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Let's see what they can do the next three weekends. A winning record from that gauntlet is a great sign.

Not a knock on any current players or their performance because I’m not sure anyone else could do any better, but man I miss seeing AK47 at 3B. And what a season Mia Williams has had at the dish. After last seasons start, I didn’t see this kind of breakthrough happening this season.

In this convoluted mess, I think that is what they ruled. Tim chose the illegal pitch and Ole Miss got the opportunity to take the play that was called leaving early. Is this the same crew that was involved in the BS 30 minute review? In any event, it simply can't be correct that a pitcher can start her full windup, stumble off the rubber, never throw the pitch, and gets rewarded with a third out and free trip to the dugout to get out of the inning. That's what happened.

Watched the replay multiple times and IMHO Gabi left in what would have been normal time with the pitcher, if she had released the pitch without delay. Because the catcher wasn’t looking at Binford during the wind, Binford bailed on the release. Rule 12.14.2 provides the guidance under exceptions, that if the pitcher delays release, the runner cannot be called out for leaving early.

Not to pick on Blue, but this was the guy from the Arkansas game which involved the extended delay.

Gators 11 run victory over Mississippi was a beat down. Earlier in the year Arky beat them 20 - 3 in 5. Total slaughter. However, the previous two games of that series Mississippi wins 9-1 & 9-3. Go figure. You just never know. Guess that is one of the reasons this sport is so fantastic.

I was wrong and I stand corrected. While a plain reading of the rule supports Blue's call (runner out), it is trumped by a "Code of Conduct" violation, and the coach of the pitching team is assessed behavioral warning.

The NCCA issued a revised interpretation:
Now about that catcher from Auburn.......

Yep, that’s the rule we’re looking for.

Incompetent umpiring at it’s finest. Crazy it’s the same guy from the other debacle. He should be in the unemployment line. That’s ridiculous.

I have no idea how that call was made. But it set up for us nice in the 7th to score everything.

A straight reading of the rules supports Blue's call. He was unaware of the rule interpretation by the NCAA that deems it a Code of Conduct violation, so the literal reading of the rule turns out to be wrong.

There is nothing better than when Falby starts with no one on base and no outs. That really plays to her strengths and the power at the top of our order. I've always wondered whether Moneyball would suggest that we take additional risks at the bottom of the order when there are two outs so that either the risks pay off or Falby leads off with no outs.

We want the team that beat us to always win, so that their RPI is higher, that makes our wins seem more impressive.

I have a question for the rules experts. If the softball rules doin't have a balk why is there a Balks stat for pitchers.
