Brief roundup from some things that stick out from games yesterday. Tennessee easily beat UGA behind Pickens complete game six hitter. Pickens has been lights out all year and her stats are extraordinary. A&M walked off in the bottom of the 7th to beat UK. Cottrill has not played in the last two games and I don't know why. MSU shut out USC with Vawter taking the loss. MSU continues explosive hitting with 13 hits nine of which were given up by Vawter. FSU lost at Louisville. Oklahoma took the first game of the series at Texas behind Maxwell (who is 11-0) and Jayda Coleman.
The LSU series will be a great gauge of where this team stands in the national scheme of things. Can our young pitchers have success against an excellent lineup over a 3-game stretch? Can our hitters deliver in key situations against high quality pitching? We need to win this series!!!
Tenn looks to be the class of the SEC. I think the winner of the LSU Florida series is the only team that has a chance of catching them. Give it your best shot ladies. There are a bunch of people here that think you are the greatest win or loose. Go Gators.
When I was at the game Wednesday, I had the opportunity of meeting Skylar. This young lady is a touch of class. Would not break my heart if she joined the staff next year and became the head coach in waiting.
Thanks rickjs1 for putting some context with your Olivia Miller and Hannah Rogers post. Too often on GC, the deep in the weeds insiders posts leave us minions a little in the dark. As an example, the use of player nicknames. I've seen it referenced multiple times, but I'm still not 100% sure who Lefty is.
She is a nice player. Hated to see her leave. Not sure she would have been an everyday starter here. This is a tough lineup to crack. Maybe that is why she left in the first place.
Here's a question -- why do we rarely use pinch runners, especially compared to the number used by several of our opponents. Tonight's game was a good example. Late in the game, power-hitter Regan Walsh gets a single and is standing on 1B. Why not sub in a speedster? LSU used three pinch runners. We used zero. I can't even begin to count the number MSU used last weekend.
I went to every Fall Ball practice and Exhibition Game we had. It was evident that AK was head and shoulders above Kaila. As time went on, Kaila's attitude and play changed. She knew she was beaten. That is the reason she transferred. Also, she is a superb catcher. I hope we do not need her as a catcher, but I would be confident in her play.
Saw that on tv,tying run thrown out at home on a controversial call, throw brought the catcher up the line ou screamed for interference, had to go to replay plus I do not know how the catcher held on.
Skylar Wallace is on the heels of Kelsey Stewart for career stolen bases. Kelsey Stewart has 113. Skylar has 108 stolen bases in her career.
There are so many good teams in the SEC now; and with the additions of Oklahoma and Texas next year, it might be easier to win the WCWS than to win the SEC.
Oklahoma is probably still the best team on paper this year. But without that beast Alo basically hitting a homer or given a base on balls every at bat, they finally seem mortal for the first time in a long time.
I want to give a shout out to Reagan, the girl has learned to hit. She was a project to hit more home runs by Tim and the staff. She has done them one better, she hits. She used to try and pull everything as a Freshman. Now if the pitch is not in her homerun zone, she goes with the pitch. She doesn’t have speed to leg out hits, but she hits. She is having a great season.
