Today's intra-squad game. More than a scrimmage, had umpires, scoreboard, etc. Didn't rain! BLUE Ava Brown pitched BLUE Mid-60's MPH mostly, change up 52MPH Pitched five 1/3 innings: gave up 10 runs, 11 hits Box: 00 = P // single (stole base), pop out, ground out, fielder’s choice 23 = 3B // single, fly out, sac fly, 18 = 1B // ground out, fly out, fly out, 47 = C // single, double, single 27 = CF // single, double, ground out 2 = RF // Fly out, ground out, ground out 33 = LF // Walk (stolen base), Walk, ground out, 11 = SS // Triple, bunt pop-up = out, double, Coach = 2B ORANGE Olivia Miller pitched ORANGE Mid 60's MPH mostly; didn’t see change-up. Pitched five innings: gave up 7 runs, 7 hits Box: 17 = SS // single, 3-run HR, ground out, single 22 = RF // fly out, single, ground out 8 = C // Grand slam, single, fly out, fly out 15 = 2B // HR, single, fielder’s choice, fly out 29 = LF // single, strike out, fly out 9 = 1B // single, fly out, ground out, fly out, 1 = 3B // single, fly out, ground out, fly out (throwing error) Coach = CF ORANGE/BLUE Makenzie Wooten was the reliever for both teams. 63MPH average, 47MPH change. NOTES: Goddard practiced but didn't play in the game. Wearing knee brace. Orange team had four errors.
Lot of hitters on the roster...productive everywhere. Looks like everyone played but Keegan and of course Goddard Who made the errors and were they "bad"?
Two things jumped out at me. 1. Korbie Otis seemed really fast. Approaching Falby fast. Both during the practice before the game and the game itself, stealing a base. If she doesn't make a roster spot, she'll have a spot as a pinch runner. 2. No one "liked" my game recap post. lol!
Korbe was second team All American and I believe she was rated No. 31 top players for 2023 by D1 Softball; she played CF for Louisville. She’ll start. In comparison, Skylar was ranked 4th and and Charla was ranked 65th.
Yeah, Otis has a spot....that's not a question. The lineup is going to be quite interesting....who is healthy and how quickly the freshmen acclimate will be keys. And defense will start to come into play again as well, no free outs with inexperienced arms
I appreciate your game recap greatly as I was unable to make it for the game. I’m getting a bit excited about our offensive capability for this season. It goes without saying that the more we hear about team speed the better (Otis sounds dynamic).
Thank you for this!! Like someone else mentioned. Keagan didn't play. Do you know if she was practicing before the scrimmage?
I had player confirm that Maya Houston is not on the team. Since the list is new, she thinks it a technical mistake.
* It was the same person for both teams. I just assumed she was a coach. Maybe she was some random passerby walking on Museum Drive that CTW grabbed for the game. Although she did make some pretty decent plays. * ???????
Meet Kylie Shaw. I simply don't know much about her talent but I guarantee if she was a competitive gymnast growing up (I've been there with my Granddaughter), then she is an athlete.
Great info from Johnny. Other than the obvious....pitchers got bombed and hitters hit....I thought these were interesting. Lefty played third. Emily was at first. Alyssa was at first. Brooke was at third. (I think it was Murph at Bama who said a year or so ago that after his first practice and the pitchers got bombed that he went home in despair but eventually realized it wasn't the pitchers that were bad but it was the hitters who were really good.)
