Interesting thought on Marissa Young. I had not thought of that. Definitely an upcoming coach. Layla is committed and should sign this November. Her sister, Jo Jo, is a year younger but may well turn out to be better than Layla. Hoping we get a commitment from Jo Jo after she becomes eligible to be formally recruited in September. I assume we are already recruiting her since she has to be sitting around the table every time Walton speaks with Young and Layla. A couple years ago Beth would have been my runaway choice but I've cooled on that some. Now I would place her as a backup choice. Plus, I think she is pretty well stuck on LSU with much of her family living nearby.

Just more fodder for discussion. In SEC play only, here are our player averages:
    2023 / 2022
    Wallace .477 .368 Hannah Adams (2022) .278
    Echols .312 .206 Cheyenne Lindsey (2022) .324
    Falby .307 .254
    Roe .304 .282
    Pollard .300
    Walsh .288 .210
    Egan .281
    Wilkie .229 .143
    Kistler .220 .313
    Goelz .203 .185
    Longley .157 .120

These numbers tell me that we miss Adams & Lindsey, Kistler has had a huge drop off from last year to this year, Roe should have been in the lineup every game and Goelz and Longley probably should not have been playing much.

Marissa Young would be an exciting and dynamic hire if the position were to open up.

I totally agree. I just don't envision Tim Walton going anywhere anytime soon. I just hope he's willing to make the tough calls needed to get this program back to an elite level. Would hate to waste the next 2 superior recruiting classes.

This doesn't surprise me at all. When I saw Kinsey in Kentucky before the game, she was talking to some little girls through the fence. They seemed thrilled that she was talking to them.

Goelz Named to Second Consecutive SEC Community Service Team

Kinsey Goelz, a graduate-senior, earned her spot on the SEC Community Service Team for the second-consecutive season.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Kinsey Goelz of the Florida softball team was announced to the 2023 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team by the league office Tuesday afternoon. The SEC has selected one student-athlete from each school to a Community Service Team for every SEC-sponsored sport since 2004.

Goelz, a graduate-senior, makes her second consecutive appearance on the SEC Community Service Team as she was honored with the award last season. Last year the Myakka City, Fla. native accumulated 25 ½ hours of community service the last academic year, but this year she surpassed that mark and volunteered 90 hours this academic year.

Through the Goodwill Gator Volunteerism program, Goelz has served the greater Gainesville community and has touched numerous lives along the way. This year, she has participated in reading and mentoring programs at numerous elementary schools, and visited children at Shands Hospital who needed an uplifting presence.

Around the community, Goelz participated in voter registration drives, served dinner to those who have no home to go to, aided in canned food drives and volunteered with Gator Tracks. She was recognized this year with the Gators Experience Athlete of the Year Award, which is given to the female student-athlete with the most engagement with the Gators Experience program in community service, leadership and career programming

You will never meet a more genuine, kind, selfless person than Kinsey. She is the real deal.
I had the privilege of meeting her in 2019 at my church, Trinity United Methodist in Gainesville.

The softball team comes to the church to help organize the food for the 1200-1500 Thanksgiving Baskets we distribute through local agencies each year.

I will say this about the team, they come to work and just not to show up. This past year, coaches Walton, Thomas, and Bosch came and pitched in with the work also. Coach Rocha also came back in the day.

But, back to Kinsey, we have remained friends, and it has been a joy to watch her advance and serve the school and community.

She also is a great presence in the dugout. The team has voted her as the best teammate at least twice. CTW has lauded her several times, also.

Here is my take on Kinsey:
    Kind
    Inspiring
    Nurturing
    Selfless
    Encouraging
    Yay! (Always cheering for everyone)

Congratulations to her. She will certainly be missed.

I love seeing these types of posts showing how the team talks with the fans and helps out in the community. I met Skylar Wallace and Rylee Trlicek at a scholarship dinner at UF about a month or so ago..what personable , nice young ladies..

Very Disappointing. When the first rankings came out this year Florida was 10 & 0 and ranked #3 in the country. Since then they have gone 25 & 19 and now ranked 22nd. How the mighty have fallen.

Tim signed a 10 year extension in 2018 so how does it work if Tim or Florida wants to part ways before the contract ends?

I wonder what changes, if any are going to be made in the off season. Hopefully Lexi is 100% next season and maybe like others have mentioned maybe a transfer pitcher will join the staff.

I may have missed a post on this, but does anyone know what happened to our volunteer assistant Cass Brewer?
