From what I could see, he was and is an extremely unselfish person and player. He is a tremendous defensive player, a good outside shooter, an excellent straight-line driver to the basket with the ability to finish in traffic in spectacular fashion and a good passer. His game is similar to Keyontae’s in many respects. He cannot handle the ball in traffic the way that Mann and Appleby did at UF, and he doesn’t try to do what they do. However, he is a spectacular athlete who can excel in an uptempo game on both ends of the floor. At UF, he was stuck in a slow-paced offense at the wing watching Appleby, Mann and, to some extent CC do their thing. He could have had the impact of a Corey Brewer. Instead, he had limited impact. Please enlighten us as to his shortcomings.
There are quite a few extreme athletes who play basketball. There aren’t that many who would have been NBA lottery picks right out of high school. Scottie would have been a lottery pick. Scottie was a great high school player, and it wasn’t based on just his athleticism. He was a great team player who could defend, pass, shoot, drive and score. He did it from the top of the key in high school. He didn’t get that opportunity at UF and didn’t seem to improve his game while at UF. He had a productive, but not great, season in the G League. The story has yet to be written as to whether Scottie will have a good NBA career. James White actually had a solid college career at Cincinnati and played pro ball for a long time. However, his NBA career was limited.
He started a game as a PG in NBA Summer League and I thought he looked more natural and fit better in that position than he did as a SG. It surprised me, but I can’t deny what I saw.
It’s true. I’ve seen highlights recently of his G League games and he’s night and day compared to what he was here. It’s almost frustrating haha
