Wow! What an unusual player/student-athlete that Coach Golden has landed at Florida. My first thought was that 7'6" players don't grow on trees, lol. That's a special type of basketball player. Golden is consistently recruiting tall centers/PF's. It will be interesting to see how his teams will play going forward. Welcome, Olivier Rioux, in becoming a Florida Gator!
Tampa what do you think about Olivier committing, anything to add. You are usually in the Gator know?
If the worlds tallest teen and a top 150 player is slated as a walk on, then how in the world will we keep him? No chance a kid like that doesnt have free rides available.
We will have the opportunity to find out if he is any good by following the IMG team this season. My guess is they will be on TV a few times. I am excited about his commitment to the Gators.
I doubt he is, though I do imagine there are a lot of potential NIL opportunities for him given the outsized attention he’ll get.
I'm assuming he is a florida scholar and gets academic money? Still don't get how he is ranked in the 140s as a player, should he be dominating? anyone know what is ppg and minutes per game are at IMG?
He's not mobile enough to dominate, there are so many skilled kids out there now...but as he gets used to his height/size he should become more coordinated (hopefully) and agile (hopefully), plus more skilled (hopefully) then (hopefully) he will be more dominating Hopefully
Btw he actually lists himself as 7'7 on his instagram https://www.instagram.com/olivier.rioux/ Not quite as tall as Abiodun Adegoke - Wikipedia (size 50 shoe) but taller than Bol and Bradley He's also listed as 7'7 on FIBA Olivier RIOUX at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2023 - FIBA.basketball
Color me skeptical. I hope the young man’s health holds out and that he can live a full life. Everything else is gravy.
