I did grow up in Florida. In my case, 'those people' are my oldest sister, both her daughters, and one of her daughter's son..., two of whom also went to Miami, are all graduates of that school. UF grads are actually a distinct minority in our extended family. Thanks for the heads up but we all love each other very much, and I have dear, longtime friends here in Knoxville whom I love very much that cheer for those people over there. We have mutually loving and healthy relationships across the board, that are not impacted one iota by the outcome on the field. Thanks for your concern for my mental state and that of my family. But I most heartily enjoy the deafening silence from all of them at the debacle that is FSU football right now. The quiet is thunderous on our family Zoom calls, in our cell phone chats, etc. The subject is studiously ignored, and I never bring it up, but I am always aware of their deep pain at the on-field product and that causes me great joy. Here is where my father's admonition "Win you lose, say little; When you win, say less." is most applicable. They KNOW what I know, what I might say, and what I don't say. That's all I need. RE the Taliban: If they were playing the big school in Tallahassee, I would cheer for the Taliban...but only for the duration of the contest.
Have not heard of any suspensions or school fines from this altercation where the police had to pepper spray players....anything come of this?
Similar situation for me and my family. I know many kids who went to FSU recently and their students, like all Florida universities, are better than ever. My issue w/ FSU has ALWAYS been how they run their athletic department. From using state funds to build classrooms when it was really for the stadium, to Bowden's hypocrisy (Polish rules, Deion rules, allowing players to try to hurt Danny), to tape of a potential rape mysteriously disappearing (and a long history of legal problems for players disappearing. Add the recent whining last season before getting blown out by UgA followed by endless excuses. I do not wish ill on the people and there are noles worthy of great respect (Charlie ward comes to mind). Still, I want nothing but misery for that program.
That’s rule #1. Rule #2 is take the other guy’s helmet off and beat him with it. Rule #3 is to have a lawyer on retainer.
