Agree. I’m not sure who the bigger narcissist is between the two. This woman’s 2 mins of ran out a long time ago.
You are aware the Mary Trump actually has a PhD in clinical psychology and has had personal contact with her uncle the Donald on numerous occasions? FYI
I am aware of both of these things. However, I don’t think she has had recent contact with Trump and I suspect her judgement is clouded by her uncle being a complete dickwad in the press.
I'm not sure how long it has been since she last had personal contact with him but it's not unreasonable for her to make an accurate assessment of Trump's mental state based on her academic background and professional experience, her previous direct contact with him and the multiple news accounts from a variety of sources regarding his recent behavior which seem to indicate that he is becoming much more unhinged than he was even five years ago.
I tend to agree with you on this: it is irresponsible of a mental health practitioner to comment on a person's mental health without proper examination and clinical distance. I don't think it requires a ton of background to recognize that his mind is fundamentally disordered and he likely is off the scale on the dark triad, to the point that it probably isn't the proper framework to assess him (he likely has more than just personality issues that rise to the level of disorder). But professional responsibility should always come first for those with that sort of a background.
I don't think anyone has, but with that said, she was invited with the rest of the family to dinner at the WH when trumpy first won the election. That was an interesting story. She saw him a couple times since then, before the book came out of course. And she of course grew up around the man.
I don’t think it’s a clinical assessment, not sure if she’s a clinician, but if she is considered clinical it’s somewhat unprofessional/unethical to suggest this as some sort of diagnosis. It isn’t. I doubt she’s had a real conversation in years and years, let alone run any tests on him. At the same time, even if this is her highly informed expert opinion but also “unprofessional” non-clinical opinion, she is effectively stating the obvious that anyone should be able to see.
Except she is his niece and a highly trained professional. Of course she would know more if she could be his psychiatrist, but no one ever will be. So having his niece who knows a thing or two about mental health tell us her opinion, I'll believe her. It's not meant to be a diagnosis, just her professional opinion of a family member who has been close to the situation.
