No you don't have to finish a semester, but you won't get credit for those classes. Who are we kidding, anyway. If its a successful athlete it really doesn't matter what their grades are, some school will snap them up.

You can quit your old school, but if you’re past the drop/add dates, you can’t enroll in classes at the new school, right? If you’re not in school for a minimum amount of hours, you lose your eligibility.
Sure, I meant that you could choose not to complete a semester at school A and still sign up and attend the next semester at school B.
I’m trying to figure out if kids can play for two teams during the same season, same semester. If they quit all their classes mid semester, that alone should make them ineligible.

Clearly very few remember or know about the baseball strike last century and the destruction said strike did to the fan relationship that had been unbreakable among professional sports. I would caution the drivers of this madness to tread lightly but that time has passed.
What about mixing schools that have trimesters with schools that have semesters. Might take some extra legwork, but I bet players can find a school that finishes fall early and transfer to a school that ends later and get in for a bowl game at least.

If players continue to test the market every single year and show absolutely no loyalty or pride for their school then that may be too much for many of the alumni base to support. I could still see the average football die hard following along because they are slaves to their hobby but there will be a decline.
There was a big decline in support in MLB when free agency was finally awarded, but until the aforementioned strike, a lot of fans had filtered back. Of course this was also about the time that Pro Football passed MLB as America's most popular sport.
The minute player a changes location from the season and plays for a rival in expanded playoff will drive the wedge and interest is waning in the younger crowd. If the the fans with the money feel jilted in the future the bank roll will disappear
As an honest reflection of the times, I'd like to see every college football team add "For Now" to its nickname. As in "Gators For Now."
Hmmm....the Natty game is Jan 8. Some schools will be open by then. I wonder if the participants add a few immediately eligible transfer players to their roster and then suit them up for that game. Is there any rule that would prevent that now that all the rules have basically been suspended?
A feature player like Etienne going to Georgia or fsu is about it for me already. Kelby Collins and other recent recruits comments in support of Napier and the program have given me hope but it's ugly right now
