Slow start defensively, got much better for most of the game. Still missing too many open 3’s from our best shooters. Excited to see how we do next week with another big game then a road game at FSU. Would be great to head to Orlando 6-0.
Yep, they weren't good last season and they had some struggles in their opener against some tiny NAIA school, Holy Sisters of the Slow and Weak, I think it was. Mincy had them at least competitive with us for a while. They improved a lot between games 1 and 2.
I know that school. It's possible that he's an Aberdeen type player or guy that looks great when he's the main guy without much pressure because he's playing at JU but I wonder if he joined our team if he'd even be top 3 best player Just my opinion. sometimes guys that aren't that great look better on a crap team with few other options and can play free and loose
You would’ve been better off sticking with degenerate. In my 50 years of following Gator basketball, the two best seasons I’ve ever seen by a point guard at Florida were last year’s season by Zyon Pullin, and the 2014 season by Scotty Wilbekin.
I have that feeling with Haugh. If he was on a crap team and was the focus of the offense, I feel like he would perform much better than he does for us as the 4th or 5th option. I keep waiting for him to turn the corner offensively. I hope it comes sometime this year.
I was very disappointed that the announcers only talked about McRay for half of the game. I really didn’t wanna hear about anyone else other than McRay. They should’ve talked about him 100% of the time. Geesh!
It is truly funny you posted this! I was watching the game and started to think how funny it would be if an announcer mispronounced his last name. Now, I’m by myself watching this game and thinking this stupid stuff because I have a silly sense of humor. I’m relieved to know I’m not the only one who thinks of things like this!
I think JU Or perhaps some nitwit announcer says “Golden was deciding whether to use Condon at this point to avoid a sticky situation!”
Limiting turnovers is key for this team. We shot it great the first half and JU fouled a lot. But they dominated the boards. 2nd half the Gator adjusted and ran away with the game. Condon was awesome, Clayton ws very good, Martin was very good. This is a team that doesn't have to rely on one or two guys every game, as different players can step up and take the lead. I'm excited about the potential for this group and think Todd Golden is doing a wonderful job. Will be interesting to see how the season plays out, but I'm optimistic.
Just imagine if Condon can become a stretch 4, shooting 35% from the arc! That would elevate this club another notch. He demonstrated that a bit last night. I think you folks are correct about JU concentrating on shutting down Walter's scoring opportunities and he responded perfectly with nice ball distribution. So far so good! Can't wait for game 3.
Just a tad more than that. I went to my first Gator game in January, 1972. They also had freshmen games back then. I might have seen Chip Williams on the freshmen team then.
Man did he get some altitude on the dunk. I told my wife, he made the defender look helpless! Wow. Walter moves smoothly thru traffic, doesn’t look that quick, then he explodes. CTG probably thought, dang, this guy is the best scoring guard he has seen ever. He is special….
Was a great game. Went to spurriers for dinner and ended up chatting with Steve. Had great seats except for these 2 guys one row behind me that talked the whole game. And the short dazzler…boy is she hot. And we won.
