I got a nasty, insulting reply about my wife thinking CTG looked over his head before conference play started. Putting that aside, many fans got exactly what they wanted and the program bellied up to the craps table last year. Chronic gambling is a problem. Keep it up and the hole only gets deeper.

Let's just hope they don't have to compete against Vandy.

Hiring of MW is now irrelevant. Honestly, I think more highly of MW than I do of TG. MW had us in a pretty good position when KJ got hurt.

Yes, he had glaring flaws. And, yes, I much prefer watching our offense now as opposed to then.

But hiring TG was yet another chapter in the saga of hiring young up and coming coaches instead of established coaches. We did it with Napier and TG. Both of them are likely to have EXTREMELY difficult years 2.

I think 20. One thing, though, his recruiting was excellent. Haven't seen that yet.

Billy's last year was an off year. But we had a GREAT year before that.

You're right in that it was a nice, long time and a consistent build-up to sustained excellence.

Over the course of 19 seasons, Billy Donovan has taken a program that previously experienced small pockets of success and has made history.
    • Two National Championships and three appearances in the title game.
    • Four Final Fours.
    • Six SEC Championships.
    • Three consecutive SEC Tournament titles from 2005-07 and adding a fourth in 2014.
    • The No. 1 ranking in the nation in five different seasons, including starting and finishing the 2006-07 season in that spot.
    • Sixteen straight 20-win seasons, three 30-win seasons, including school records of 36 wins and a 30-game winning streak in 2013-14.
    • Seventeen consecutive postseason appearances.
There was a time when any of these goals seemed unattainable for the University of Florida basketball program – until March 27, 1996, when Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley hired the up-and-coming Donovan who has turned the Gators into a perennial national power.

Hey. Michigan and UCLA are great academic institutions that have solid athletic programs so it can be done.

Maybe look at the politics of each state, though.

Oh I didn’t realize these two schools were filling their trophy case. Lurker we need to take a stroll up there and over there to look at that gold they have won lately. Come on you are smarter than that and you know I am correct.

When you played at UF how many football and basketball SEC championships had UF won in the history of the school?

    Not even talking NCAA championships.

    The answer is ZERO.

The first one was in 1989 and it was in basketball.

Zero .. yes zero. And Florida was not considered and academic elite. So basically we sucked in athletics and just kind of academically ok . Our people are so damn full of ourselves thinking we are the only school in the universe. I think we are ok.. better reputation academically but athletically Florida is considered a middle of the road athletic department. This is what people outside of UF think of us.
I see lots of public relation flaws and I see a lot of legacy kids going elsewhere because they can’t even get accepted to Florida and they go to other state universities around the south. We are missing on a lot of great all around kids. These kids will stay in our state and be a true workforce contributor
. This ,Dave , pisses me off to no end. You know I was in HS Admin before I retired and I see these reps come in from UF recruiting students thinking their chit don’t stink . I listened to their presentations and it was horsecrap. If I was a high level senior in HS I would walk out of the meeting. I spoke with them and said we have to be inviting to these kids. Florida is not as cool” as our people think it is . Sorry , I’m drunk and I’m done !

Somehow, I doubt UF would be too upset with you walking out given your indifference toward academics, etc.

Of course they wouldn’t. You are the type who personify the attitudes of these UF recruiting reps.

You want Florida to be Vandy , Stanford , Northwestern . Congrats we are.

Ahh, and you know so much about me. Funny stuff.

The reality not many would say that Florida is like the private schools you named in academics or sports. The idea that a university can't excel in both academics and sports is just nonsense and an excuse for mediocrity.
