THE STORYLINE​

• Week 5 marks the first-ever meeting between Florida and Eastern Washington on the gridiron.

• The Gators have played 88 total games against FCS opponents, owning a 67-17-4 record (.784).

• Florida has won six-straight games vs. the FCS and is 21-1 against FCS opponents since 1981.

• Florida is 2-0 all-time against the Big Sky, with wins over Idaho (2018: 63-10) and Montana State (1988: 69-0)

• The Gators have outscored Big Sky opponents, 132-10, in the two prior meetings.

• Florida most-recently played an FCS opponent last season, defeating Samford, 70-52, on Nov. 13, 2021.

• In that game, Florida totaled 717 yards of offense, which ranks second in program history.

• The 122 combined points between Florida and Samford was the most in a UF football game in 108 years and the

• Florida boasts a 352-112-13 (.752) all-time record at The Swamp, holding the second-highest home winning percentage in the nation since 1990 with a 171-33 (.838) record.
» The Gators have outscored opponents 7,679 to 3,284 in 204 games since 1990 inside The Swamp, putting the
average outcome at 37.6 to 16.1 (21.5 points).

• Florida has scored in 427 consecutive games dating back to 1988 -- an NCAA record and 56 games longer than any other college football team in the history of the sport.

 

RICHARDSON TOTALS 515 YARDS IN HISTORIC WEEK 4

• Florida QB Anthony Richardson completed 24-of-44 passes for 453 yards and two touchdowns while rushing
17 times for 62 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

• Richardson finished with 515 total yards of offense, which ranks third all-time in a single game in Florida
program history. Richardson’s 515 yards of total offense is the top mark in the SEC and P5 this season.

• Richardson’s 453 yards of passing ranks ninth in a single game in program history and is the top mark in the P5
this year (third in FBS).

• Richardson set a new career high in single-game passing yards, topping his previous best of 168 set in Week 1
vs. No. 7 Utah (Sept. 3, 2022). Richardson eclipsed the 200, 300 and 400-yard passing marks for the first time.

• Richardson is the first UF QB to throw for 300 yards in a game since Emory Jones vs. Samford on Nov. 13, 2021
and the first UF QB to throw for 300-plus in an SEC contest since Kyle Trask vs. LSU on Dec. 12, 2020.

• Richardson also set a career high in completions (24), topping his previous best of 17 vs. Utah in Week 1.

• Richardson became the first Florida quarterback to pass for 450-plus yards and two-plus passing touchdowns
while rushing for 50-plus yards and two-plus rushing touchdowns in a single game.
» Richardson is the first FBS QB to accomplish the feat across the last three seasons - since Sept. 21, 2019,
when UCLA’s Dorian Thompson-Robinson did so against Washington State.
» Richardson is one of seven FBS quarterbacks to accomplish this feat in the last 25 years (Caleb Evans, Devin
Gardner, Garrett Gilbert, Patrick Mahomes - twice, Baker Mayfield and Dorian Thompson-Robinson).

• Richardson is the first UF QB since Tim Tebow (Nov. 10, 2007 vs. South Carolina) with 300-plus passing yards,
one-plus passing TD, 50-plus rushing yards and two-plus rushing TDs in a game.
» Richardson’s and Tebow’s performance represent the only times a UF QB has accomplished this feat in the
last 25 seasons. He is the first SEC QB to accomplish the feat since KJ Jefferson (Arkansas) and Matt Corral (Ole
Miss) on Oct. 9, 2021.

• Richardson connected with TE Keon Zipperer for a 44-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, marking
the Gators’ first passing TD of the season and Richardson’s first since Nov. 27, 2021 vs. Florida State.
» Of Richardson’s 17-career touchdowns (nine passing, eight rushing), he now has six scores of 40-plus yards
and eight scores of 25-plus yards.
» Of Richardson’s eight TD passes, five have come from 25-plus yards, four have been from 30-plus yards and
three have been from 40-plus yards.

into college football in 2020 is the top mark in the FBS (any position, min. 20 rushes).

• Richardson’s 79.0 rushing yards per game in non-con games also ranks first in the Power Five and second in
the FBS behind Liberty’s Malik Willis (among QBs and since his 2020 debut). The next-closest active QB is Air
Force’s Haaziq Daniels at 73.7 YPG.

• Richardson was among the best QBs in the nation vs. non-con competition last season, as he accounted for
three touchdown scores of 70-plus yards in the first two weeks (vs. FAU, at USF) and posted a 231.4 overall pass-
er rating in non-conference play, which tied for second in the FBS among players with 15-plus pass attempts.

 

WR CORPS BREAKS OUT IN KNOXVILLE

• WR Ricky Pearsall had 100-plus receiving yards for the second time in his career and first time as a Gator
(since going for 153 yards against UCLA on Oct. 2, 2021) in Week 4 at Tennessee.
» Pearsall caught five passes for 103 yards (20.6 avg), setting a new high as a Gator in receiving yardage.

• WR Justin Shorter also set a career high with 155 yards receiving on seven receptions, topping his previous
best of 113 yards at LSU on Oct. 16, 2021.

• Pearsall and Shorter became Florida’s first-two 100-yard receivers in a game this season.

• This was Florida’s first game with two 100-yard receivers since Dec. 19, 2020 vs. Alabama.

• Seven receivers caught one pass with six hauling in multiple catches.

• TE Keon Zipperer set career highs in receiving yards (62) and receiving long (44), TE Dante Zanders had career
highs in catches (two), yards (18) and long (11), and WR Thai Chiaokhiao-Bowman caught his first-career pass.

 

RICHARDSON’S TIME CAPSULE

• QB Anthony Richardson earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 1 after setting career
highs with three rushing TDs and 168 yards passing, becoming the first UF QB to rush for three-plus TD and
pass for 150-plus yards in the same game since Tim Tebow vs. Georgia on Nov. 1, 2008.
» Richardson became the first UF QB to rush for three-plus TDs in a contest since Emory Jones accom-
plished the feat vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 9, 2019.
» Richardson is one of three UF QBs since 1996 to rush for three TDs and pass for 150-plus yards in the
same game, joining Jesse Palmer and Tim Tebow (twice). He is one of 13 FBS QBs to do so since 2021.

• Richardson entered 2022 as a projected first-round pick (13th) by ESPN’s Mel Kiper, having completed
59.4% of his passes for 529 yards and six touchdowns (five interceptions) last season.

• Richardson also rushed 51 times for 401 yards and three touchdowns in 2021, averaging 7.9 YPC and 50.1 YPG.
» Richardson’s 7.9 YPC ranked fourth in the FBS among QBs with 50-plus carries last season.

• Richardson also ranked t-ninth among FBS quarterbacks with 57.3 rushing yards per game in 2021.

• Against USF last season, Richardson completed a 75-yard TD pass and 41-yard TD pass (both in first half), as
well as breaking off an 80-yard TD rush.

• Richardson’s 80-yard TD rush in the fourth quarter vs. USF tied for the ninth-longest touchdown rush in
Florida football history. It was also the longest rush by a UF quarterback in the last 25 years, as well as the
third-longest TD rush by an FBS QB in 2021.

• Richardson’s 75-yard TD pass to Jacob Copeland in the first quarter was Florida’s longest passing play since
January 2, 2017 vs. Iowa in the Outback Bowl – also played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

• Richardson became the first Gators quarterback with a 70+ yard touchdown run and 75+ yard touchdown
pass in the same season since Jeff Driskel in 2012.
» Richardson remains the only FBS player in the last two seasons (since 2021) to record a 70+ yard touch-
down rush and 70+ yard TD pass in the same season - and he did it all in the same game

• UF averaged 5.5 yards per rush attempt in 2021 - the fourth-highest mark in program history, which ranked
fourth in the FBS. Meanwhile, UF averaged 208.7 rushing YPG - the 11th-highest mark in program history.

• UF ranks third in the SEC and 14th in the P5 with 5.5 YPC, and 23rd in the P5 in rushing YPG (194.3).

• UF has rushed for 200 yards eight times in its last 17 contests.

• UF has rushed for 100 yards in six-straight games dating back to last season, including all four games in 2022.

• Florida has eclipsed 100 rush yards in 15 of its last 17 games (44 of last 55).

• Week 3 marked UF’s fifth game with three players scoring a rushing TD since the start of the ‘21 season.
Among SEC teams, only Ole Miss (six), Tennessee (six) and Georgia (five) have as many or more such games.

 

MONTRELL JOHNSON JR. + TREVOR ETIENNE

• 2021 All-Sun Belt Freshman of the Year RB Montrell Johnson Jr. and true freshman RB Trevor Etienne have
been the key cogs in the UF run game, as they lead the Gators with 258 and 201 yards rushing, respectively.

• Johnson is averaging 7.8 YPC (12th in FBS, third in SEC) on 33 attempts, while Etienne is averging 6.5 YPC
(eighth in SEC) on 31 rushes. No other Florida player is averging more than 5.0 YPC.

• The duo has combined for five rushing TDs, 64 carries, 459 yards and 114.75 of UF’s 194.25 rush YPG (59.1%).

• In Week 3, Johnson Jr. rushed for 103 yards on six carries with 17.2 yards per attempt – the second highest YPC
in a single game in the FBS this season behind Nicholas Singleton of PSU (17.9 YPC vs. Ohio, 9/10/22).

• Johnson Jr. became the first UF RB with 100-plus yards since Dameon Pierce vs. FAU on Sept. 4, 2021. Johnson
Jr. and Pierce are the lone UF RBs to eclipse 100 yards in a game in the last three seasons.

• Johnson Jr.’s 62-yard TD rush in Week 3 was the longest by a UF RB since Pierce’s 75-yard TD run vs. South
Carolina on Oct. 19, 2019

 

OFFENSIVE GRAB BAG
​

• Florida has surrendered just three sacks in 2022, which is tied for the 13th-fewest in the FBS.

• Over the last four seasons, the Gators rank ninth in the Power Five with 453.3 scrimmage yards per game
and 12th in the Power Five with 34.1 points per game, ranking third and fourth in the SEC, respectively.

• Since 2018, UF ranks seventh in the P5 in passing efficiency (153.6) and 11th in TD-INT ratio (2.78).

• Florida has out-gained its opponents in 14 of 17 games dating back to last season (South Carolina, UCF, USF).

• Florida has amassed 400-plus total yards in three of four games this season, as well as 19 times in its last

been successful on eight of 11 attempts (72.7%). Meanwhile, UF has allowed just two fourth-down
conversions (2-for-6, 33.3%), which is tied for the 15th-fewest in the FBS.

• In Week 4, UF’s five fourth-down conversions (80.0%) was the team’s most since Sept. 26, 2015 vs.
Tennessee and was just the second time in the last 25 years the Gators have done so.

 

2021 OFFENSIVE SNAPSHOT​

• Florida wrapped up the 2021 season with 11 100-plus yard rushing games, six 200-plus yard rushing games,
four 290-plus yard passing games, 12 350-plus total yardage games, seven 400-plus total yardage games,
four 500-plus total yardage games and two 600-plus yardage games.

• UF posted two of the top-six single-game performances in terms of total yardage in program history in 2021,
erupting for 717 yards vs. Samford on Nov. 13 (second all-time) and 666 yards at USF on Sept. 11 (sixth all-time).

• UF was one of seven teams in the FBS and one of four P5 schools with over 460 YPG and 200 rushing YPG.

• UF ranked 15th in the FBS with 462.8 scrimmage YPG and 23rd in the FBS with 208.7 rush YPG (both fourth in SEC).

• UF has held opponents to a 53.8 passing completion percentage since 1996, which ranks seventh-lowest

DEFENSIVE YOUTH​

• Six Florida defensive players - LB Shemar James, DL Chris McClellan, S Miguel Mitchell, CB Devin Moore,
DL Tyreak Sapp and S Kamari Wilson - all made their collegiate debuts in the season opener vs. No. 7
Utah and have appeared in every game this season.
» James started at LB, becoming the first Gator true freshman to start a season opener since Marco
Wilson vs. Michigan in 2017 and the first true freshman LB since David Reese II vs. South Carolina in 2016.
» James ranks sixth on the team in tackles (16), t-second in sacks (1.0) and t-third in QB hurries (3).
» At No. 11 Tennessee, James recorded his first-career sack in the first quarter, getting to Tennes-
see QB Hendon Hooker for a six-yard loss. The sack also marked his first-career TFL.
» Freshman DL Jamari Lyons made his collegiate debut vs. USF, becoming the seventh Gator
freshman to appear on defense this season.

• Georgia transfer DB Jalen Kimber made his UF debut and finished with two tackles vs. No. 7 Utah.
» His 39-yard interception return TD vs. USF in the second quarter represented Florida’s first pick-
six since CJ Gardner-Johnson’s 53-yard interception return TD against Michigan in the Chick-Fil-A
Peach Bowl on Dec. 29, 2018. The pick-six marked Florida’s 51st since 1996.
» The interception, as well as the touchdown, were the first of Kimber’s career.
» Kimber earned a 92.7 grade by Pro Football Focus (PFF), the highest by a CB for Week 3.

• Florida underclassmen (Fr.-R. Soph) have accounted for 93 of Florida’s 287 total tackles this season.

• McClellan and Wilson both notched 0.5 TFL on the same play for a two-yard loss in the second quarter at
Tennessee – marking the first TFLs of their careers.
» Wilson finished with a career-high five tackles while McClellan also set a career-high with four.

• Underclassmen CB Avery Helm and CB Jason Marsahll Jr. have started all four games this season
» Helm has started 13 career games and Marshall Jr. has started 11.
» DL Desmond Watson started his first-career game at No. 11 Tennessee.

• R-FR. DL Justus Boone registered Florida’s second sack of the season, getting to Will Levis for a seven-yard
loss in the first quarter. It marked the first full sack of Boone’s career, moving his career total to 1.5.

 

TURNOVERS TRENDING​

• The Gators have produced seven turnovers this season, including back-to-back games with multiple - two
interceptions and a forced fumble vs. USF and two forced fumbles at No. 11 Tennessee.
» Last season, UF only had four turnovers gained through the first-four games and finished the season
with 14 total.

• Four of the turnovers caused marked career firsts for a group of Gators with Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr.
(forced fumble vs. USF), Jalen Kimber (interception vs. USF), Ventrell Miller (forced fumble at Tenn.) and
Amari Burney (forced fumble at Tenn.).
» The first turnover of the season by the defense was Burney’s game-winning interception vs. No. 7 Utah
in the season opener.

• The fumble forced on the Vols’ opening drive by Miller marked the second-straight game Florida caused a
fumble on the opponent’s opening drive - vs. USF, Powell-Ryland Jr. forced a fumble.

 

DEFENSIVE VETERANS PAVING THE WAY

• In the first three games this season, DB Trey Dean III led the team in tackles.
» He led the defense with a career-high 12 tackles in the season opener vs. No. 7 Utah and nine
vs. No. 20 Kentucky.
» This marked his sixth game as a Gator in which he led the team in tackles, with three last year
(vs. Tennessee, No. 1 Georgia and Florida State).
» Dean III sits at 214 career tackles, tied for sixth among active players in the SEC and 52nd in the FBS.
» He is tied for 36th nationally in total tackles and ranks fourth among safeties.
» He has broken up 17 passes and is eight away from tying Janoris Jenkins (2008-10), who is tied
for 10th all-time at UF with 25.

• JR LB Tre’Vez Johnson’s interception in the fourth quarter set up the game-winning touchdown for the
Gators in a 31-28 victory over USF.
» It marked his third-career pick with his last coming at Kentucky in 2021.
» Florida has scored 18 points in its next drive off the last-three turnovers it has caused - forced
fumble by LB Shemar James vs. USF and interception by DL Gervon Dexter Sr. vs. No. 20 Kentucky.

• DL Gervon Dexter Sr. and Dean III combined for the Gators’ first sack of the season on Kentucky’s
the second play of its opening drive.

• Dexter Sr. was second on the team with seven tackles vs. the Wildcats as he added a pass breakup and
his second-career interception.
» His first interception came at Ole Miss in 2020 during his collegiate debut.
» Dexter Sr. is the first UF player to be credited with a sack and an interception in the same
game since Mohamoud Diabate vs. Kentucky on Nov. 28, 2020.

• In his 46th career game in the Orange & Blue, LB Amari Burney sealed a 29-26 season-opening victory
over No. 7 Utah with his third-career interception, which came in the endzone with 0:17 remaining in
the fourth quarter.
» His last interception was in 2020 vs. Georgia.

» Mihalek nailed a 50-yarder in the second quarter vs. UK, marking UF’s longest since Jace Christ-
mann hit a 51-yard field goal at Kentucky last season.

• LB Diwun Black successfully recovered Mihalek’s onside kick in the 4th quarter at No. 11 Tennessee

• Jeremy Crawshaw is averaging 44.7 yards per punt in 11 attempts this season.
