Baylor was shooting 37% on the season and they shot 56% against the Gators. If they shoot 50%, the Gators probably pull out a win. But, some nights, things go your way, which was the case for Baylor.

I agree. We were late on switch offs and they made us pay. Coming down the court, Baylor would come down and we would not make sure we picked them up right away, wide open threes. All this said, we managed to stay close to them. We knew their guards were all high percentage shooters, we helped them. Our defense has to get better and we need everyone healthy to keep everyone fresh.
This hurt us against Virginia also.

All this said, the Gator Boyz played hard, with poise. Very proud of the team and the effort!

 

That brings up a great point I forgot about. The one thing I liked about Mike White is that we always switched on every screen. I would’ve liked to see this strategy against Baylor. It annoys a lot of teams when you’re not getting open off screens. Our bigs did a great job the few times they were defending out on the perimeter. Yet we never seemed to switch on anything.

True, but it has become one of the most important parts of having a winning team.

 

I agree that defending the three (and shooting it) is possibly the single greatest predictor of success on both ends. But I also think the poster mocking Handlogten's absence overlooks the chain reaction his absence causes. Handlogten's ability to protect the rim and change shots changes everything. No way Baylor's smallish guards kill us driving to the rim and shooting over a 7'1" center. It would have also kept our wings from doubling down in the paint on drives in the first half, which in turn would have cut down on Baylor finding open shooters in rotation.

 

I'm looking forward to getting everyone healthy and settling on a starting 5 to get synergy.
