Well, that wasn't the best audition for a conference run as I have seen. Let's just say the SEC is a tough league this year and we were at a disadvantage with C-19 restrictions. And yes, losing games at home means you have to win more games away. As I said, the SEC is a tough league this year. Not good. We lack a proven outside shooter. Jones is now more a liability than a key starter. If he doesn't figure it out this team is going to be a "who the heck knows whether someone will get hot shooting the ball and we can win" makeup. And the fan frustration is going to build fast. I think the offensive funk definitely changed the defense playing. Yes, you can't defend long range shooting but you expect the averages to even out (unless they are hot, see us winning above). I think I am more concerned with the quality of the point guard play than I am with the lack of a proven shooter. Appleby appears to be pressing too much to be effective. The front court appears to be capable, even though it has to rely on CC scoring plenty of points. Just need to make sure the offense does not put them in a position to fail. This next week is going to tell us a lot about whether this team can get their mojo back in tougher games or they have hit their ceiling.
After CMW was hired, I remember Billy Donovan stating that he could make himself available to help. He was willing to take time from a pro basketball job to make sure the program wasn't destroyed. He knew then what we know now.
Have no idea why White didn't go big in the 2nd half. The Gators were so undisciplined and White just sat there with no answer. White needs his typical overhaul the offense mid-season as this isn't working. Need a lot more of Felder, Jitobah and Reeves. 3 guard lineup doesn't work for this team. McKissic, Appleby and Jones aren't big guards. Need more length. Appleby - he absolutely killed the momentum of this team. Had 4 TO's but should have been double that with all of the unforced shots and 1 on 3 drives. This team is never winning with a pg who is this careless with the ball. It's unbelievable to me that White allows this to continue. Jones - complete mystery and his slump started to effect the rest of the game. Hit some shots in 2nd half so maybe he'll get going. McKissic- I was so high on him early but his defense, while still good, isn't all world and offensively he's not bringing much to the table. He can't drive and is just okay at getting his own shots. W/o the 3 ball not much offense. Fleming - easily his worst game of the season last night. He played very very poorly. At least he has a little size. Imo, only 2 of 4 should play at same time. Play the hot hand. Felder, Jitoboh and Reeves all need more time.
No only do we throw the ball to the opponent, we lead them with a perfect pass to the opposite basket. The look is that it is almost on purpose. These are grown men making these horrific turnovers!!
Pat Dooley didn't major in math: We got 15 offensive rebounds and 12 Turnovers. It isn't 40 extra possessions, it is 13 extra possessions for Bama.
No doubt, there are a few things that could be changed/upgraded for the better, regarding the "fan experience" aspect. From my perspective - the music that is played sucks and it really annoying. If I were in charge, it would be AC/DC, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, Tom Petty, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, The Who, STP, The Doobie Brothers, and many others. The crowd would go absolutely nuts!
“Destroyed” is a bit too strong for me. Meddling may be more in line with my feelings. White’s vision for the team can’t manifest because he lacks the skills to get a roster from point A to point B. The reasons for his inability to get the most out of his teams have piled up over the years.
The students wouldn’t. That would have been like playing the Everly Brothers in the ODome in the 80s. Nothing wrong with the Everly Brothers mind you.
John Wooden used to have a player who maybe wasn’t that good on defense, but could shoot the lights out with the ball. When UCLA was struggling to score, he would put him in so they could at least start scoring again. Do we have any players like that?
Al Maguire was famous for saying that the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores. In Mike White’s case, it would be that the best thing about freshmen is that if they don’t leave the program they will eventually become seniors. He needs to develop these guys early on and make them feel that they are equal parts of the team.
I figured I would post here instead of starting a thread. But which do you think announcers would vote for as most annoying while doing a UF basketball game? - The screaming girl from a couple years back - The now clanging metal sound coming from the stands.
