once again, White’s teams are struggling on offense. After finishing 102nd last season, this year our Gators are tied for 145th in the country in scoring at only 73.6 ppg. I really hope we can turn this season around! NCAA College Men's Basketball DI current team Stats | NCAA.com
This is not a good-shooting team and the PG play is wildly inconsistent. We have no marksman on the team and that's hard to accept, considering some of the strong shooters we have enjoyed over the years. Separate, but somewhat related, we need to see Felder on the floor more. Too often, White pulls guys when they enter and get a quick foul.
We kind of new this was going to be a UVA-style defensive team. But has that end of the floor really produced? I wonder if most SEC teams will score above their average against us.
So far both SEC teams have scored above their season average against us. We aren't playing good defense either.
Totally agree. Felder played 12 minutes last night. That's utterly ridiculous if you ask me and continues to show that White often doesn't have a good feel for the game, which is why many have been asking for White to bring in an assistant that can help with in-game line-up changes and adjustments. Now in year 7, i don't think this will ever happen.
I recall coach giving the impression during preseason that this team was a great passing team with a bunch of unselfish guys and that it would translate into better offense than we have seen. But we rank 160th in the country in assists per game, only about 1 assists per game better than last year's squad.
As another posted, I’d like to see a lineup of: Appleby Flemming Duruji Felder Caselton A 3 guard lineup of Appleby, BMac, and Jones isn’t going to solve our problems. White also shortens the bench even though our defense struggles now with the press because there are not enough fresh bodies coming in. Unfortunately, when things get tough, White reverts to his comfort zone, and gets stuck doing the same thing over and over, despite it not working.
Agreed 108, CMW needs to do something, sadly Jones just disappears, his only contribution, chunking up 24 footers with his unusual shooting form, Tyree is a turnover machine, Fleming seems to have lost his offensive game. I see little chance in beating LSU whom looks strong this year so we will start 0 - 3. I need to check the schedule because if we don't play some weaker teams coming up this season could get out of control. CC was a beast against Auburn but he can't win games without some help. We are a poor offensive team, even poorer 3 point shooting team and our defense is not playing up to expectation. We are in trouble.
Yeah. I think it was clear going in this team was offensively challenged in the skill department (on top of our non-functional scheme), but White said this was his best defensive team. It really hasn’t been that either. Mediocre defense, BAAAD at rebounding to go with bad offensive system. That adds up to NIT. But I guess we can hope with a bunch of 5th year guys and seniors they will fight into the tourney at least.
That's what is so frustrating to me. It's like they let their offensive struggles affect their defense. You don't expect that from a veteran team.
When matchups call for something different, I still wonder why CMW insists on playing three guards, while not considering Felder as his 3 and maybe even giving Jitoboh and Castleton, a twin tower look.
I can’t see Jitoboh and Castleton on the floor together, but I can certainly see Duruji, Felder and Castleton on the floor together.
Jitoboh has a pretty high basketball IQ. Not sure if it could work defensively, but on a limited basis having Jitoboh at the high post, with Castleton at the low post, could create some great mismatches for us offensively.
Not sure if anyone has the same opinion, Fleming seems to be the one guy that was most impacted by the COVID pause. Hope he fully recovers, we need him
Been sorely disappointed with his offense lately. He seemed to be the one guy that could create and score, lately that has not been the case. If the Gators think pounding the rock to CC is the answer, think again. Yes, he is a fine player and can get "his" but Kareem he is not.
