You definitely went into a very much more detailed orientated post than myself. I admit mine was an over simplistic theory, but to answer your question Meyer did deal with an admission department that cost him players. There were a few DT that never made it to UF, but our SEC brethren had no such difficulties. And Sanders is a perfect example of the hypocrisy of CFB & I still stand by my statement. I have yet to read a board ANYWHERE bragging about the grades of the 5* player that racked up ridiculous stats. Btw I'm not the only one that's brought up UF's admissions. I've also seen posters bring up that UF has also changed dynamics in the student body, accepting more international enrollees than national the past decade plus? The UF of the 90's isn't the same UF of 2023.
This notion keeps going around. The growth in international students is at the Graduate level, not undergraduate
One of my favorite tropes for people explaining sports failures - more out of state students at UF. UF has about 7% international students, mostly grad students with only 846 international undergraduates.University of Florida International Students& Information on International Students by Country at UF. UF student body is 80% in state. https://news.ufl.edu/media/newsufledu/documents/UF-Fact-Sheet-For-Journalists.pdf Bama is 42% in state - majority out of state. 4% international. Home away from home: What international students bring to UA this focus on academics entirely misleads us from the true issues: ufaa and hires.
Larry Grant was a prized Juco out of California believe that got denied admission over a math class back when Meyer was here. Don't remember if it was an SEC thing or a UF issue but he ended up at Ohio state instead. Don't believe he was anything special when it was all said and done but that was just one.
Just stating I've seen it brought up here on GC a few times, but never the numbers. But... but.... 2 things can still be true at the same time. It's hard to ignore UF not admitting kids but our SEC foes can & are. Honestly, how many kids playing college sports would qualify academically. I've personally known extremely smart people with 4.6ish +/- gpa's & flawless credentials get denied by UF and had to settle for fsu.
and some of those international students are members of our athletics program—t&f, swimming, even hoops
So, counter point then why does the AD never grab a big name HC and has pretty much hired the unknown but big possible upside? Maybe they know that UF admissions is a problem and they don't want that headache??? I remember Dan & Mac banging heads with them, but Billy does seem to have a better grasp. Also we had all those flips, whose to say in secret they couldn't qualify?!
In my timeline, we are undefeated and playoff bound. It may be the alcohol, or it just may be Berenstein vs Berenstain.
4.6 gpa and flawless credentials...that means youre smart. I assume even if denied by UF youd be smart enough to go somewhere else that wasnt FSU. Based on what Ive seen most of their grads cant get interviews for grad school or never end up using their degrees. Having credentials like that and not getting in UF youd be better off back dooring Santa Fe into UF or just heading out of state to another excellent school. FSU education really isnt anything more than 13th grade unless youre part of the football team where it is like 2nd grade plus you get to rape, steal and beat your pregnant girlfriend all while being loved by the student body and law enforcement. Football players will also have to occasionally take their 63-3 beatings on prime time tv...
Definitely don't ask me why they chose the SWAC lol. Especially as I'm in Central FL if they wanted to stay in FL ucf is right there. But getting into UF has gotten super difficult.
His lone notable play was in the title game we played vs OSU- he had a personal foul in a kick return giving us even better field position. Way to go Larry!
