Thought it would be a fun title to bring some fun back to the start of a looooonnnngggggg off season. And to kick it off here's a link to C. Raymond's signees at lsu & UF. https://247sports.com/Coach/corey-raymond-939/AllTimeRecruits/ As you'll notice the amount of 5* to his name at lsu vs UF is probably 7 to 1. Easy. No way an AC just forgets how to recruit 5* DBs. What says you, fellow GC posters? I know I have many a theories on this lol.
Is it still just a theory by now? I was pretty sure it was a proven fact by now....you know....there has never been a Bama or Georgia Asst that sucked as a recruiter. They only suck when they work for other schools.
My conspiracy theory is easy to explain. I went to sleep and I awakened in entirely different reality... with different memories and different events that had unfolded then what the record shows... The last real even that happened to me was right before... Nah, never mind, I don't want to bore anyone with that whole story.
Oh definitely shady recruiting, but I personally don't think lsu is as dirty as Bama & ug. Those 2 are on a totally different planet. My main theory which has landed me a LOT of bacon on the topic is UF's admissions dept. I completely understand UF is academics 1st. But not 1 single fan gives 1 single f word about their grades. I honestly believe admissions has cost UF more kids than we could even imagine.
I don’t believe we hear much about admissions any more. I don’t believe many coaches would take a job here if it was a major issue. We do not outbid for top talent and we do not have the sell of on field results.
This is not news per se, just a conspiracy of our own making. Ever since we beat Bama in the 2008 SECC game, we pissed off the Football Gods (also known as The Firm, also known as Saban and Company) and every coach we hired to run the program was a plant by them to deliberately keep us down. Yes, Mus-take was more a UGa plant (and now THEY have a firm, coincidence???), but the rest have definite Bama/Saban connections. We aren't stupid, we just have really bad enemies. Missouri and LSU do not.
Is this where we can add a story that could become juicy? NCAA investigating unauthorized CFB film access Since Saban came out a few days ago and said they aren’t letting their guys use iPads in prep for playoffs, it’s either Alabama or Michigan that got access.
I really think that athletes get some leeway in taking admissions. I am not sure how much but it is probably substantial now. Not like Bama, Ole Miss, Auburn, UGA etc. We are just getting beat big time in NIL money and undercover money. We used to be closer to the big time spenders but we are now considered #1 or close in academics for public universities and one of the top universities in the US in any category. I do not think that is going to change with our President and Board of Trustees. They would like to do well in athletics but being #1 in academics and stature is the goal here. At least in the public school category but they want to compete with the Harvards and Yales also. And the Ivys do not care about athletics. That is my understanding, anyway. We do have many former students who prefer athletics but they do not control the school. And since we have large numbers of admission applications they can do whatever they want. Not what I would want but it is what it is. Anyone else have an idea?
this absolutely nails it. What is frustrating to me is UAA stated goal is to “compete for championships in football”, but they are unwilling to do the dirty work that championship programs do. I’ve heard Stricklin a few times in interviews cite “fluidity in legal status with NIL in the state and federally” as reasons they are intentional and slow… but they were that way with facilities and a dozen other things over the last 15 years that would have closed the gap. Billy is doing a good job trying to thread a tight needle of - kids who qualify academically, want to be in a rebuild, want to play for Florida and getting them competitive NIL…. It’s hard. The admin could make it easier on him but that’s just not the program they want. Michigan is the blueprint…. But Harbaugh obviously was willing to go rogue and color outside the lines in other ways to win. That’s not happening with Billy.
Michigan took the long road and I don’t think cheating on videos was very key. Michigan isn’t getting top classes. They stuck with a coach that many weren’t happy with. Recruiting just comes down to cash and Michigan isn’t the team involved in the last minute payoffs are they?
Not that I can prove it, but if it wasn't Harbaugh but let's say Lincoln Riley, I believe he would have been moved a long time ago. Being a "chosen alumnus" and their wanting the job to get the program to its "proper place" and not just getting the prestige and large paycheck has its privileges. If Kerwin had made more of an effort to work his way through the coaching ranks in earnest after his playing days were over, he would have fit that position. Napier is just another hopeful that he is going to figure things out sooner rather than later. The other more likely parallels to Napier is Beamer at Va Tech and Swinney at Clemson. Neither universities were prepared to due the "proper" thing and relieve them of their duties when they continued to fail. And the time got them to where they finally figured it out.
In 1984, Charley Pell was fired for ncaa violations including, as I remember, illegally scouting other teams. Also, Florida was denied a recognition of being national champion that year. Now Pell never went himself to other schools practices/games, it was a low level assistant. In 2023, Jim Harbaugh was suspended 3 games for scouting violations by an assistant. However, Michigan is the #1 seed in the college football playoff despite documented cheating!
Ill sum up this whole post in three words...We are Vanderbilt. I couldnt be happier with the University focus on providing an absolutely top tier education and graduates who are very well educated at a highly respected school. Its 100% what a college education should be about...making my degrees at UF are more respected than ever, but the football/basketball side of this equation quite frankly is putrid. It is what it is..we dont play the same game Alabama and Georgia play in regard to NIL or dirty win at all cost recruiting. Part of that makes me very proud...but watching us play on an uneven field in football is painful.
