My picks: PG & player's coach: @GatorLurker - experience, strategy & wisdom SG: @tampajack1 - shooting form expert; gets insider tips from Ques Glover SF: @murphree_hall - can play all guard spots. Hopefully the LatAsian Caucasian doesn't start locker room trouble over the PG spot. Could play some pt forward. PF: @akaGatorhoops - undersized, but tenacious & knows how to fish C: Gonna need some help here. Might hafta go @GatorPlanet & platoon with @exiledgator in a five-guard lineup. Coach: ME! I know virtually nothing about zone defenses, motion offense, or continuity offense, but it's my thread and I get to pick the coach!
2nd squad: @bike1014 - SG; dude can shoot @INGATORSWETRUST - seriously needs to be moved up the list given his creds. Maybe head coach and I step to the assistant/defensive enforcer guy. @domgator - intermural prowess @jeffphillips21 - how could I leave this cat out? Probably vie for starter minutes. @wa_gatorfan - experience + strong at the pick 'em! @Bradass - team doc & rehab specialist
Deeply honored to be in the rotation, but at just 6'1" 195#, I'm much better facing the basket (a natural 3). I'll definitely pull boards and alter shots above my weight class though.
Happy to bring to the center position my 72" of grit and determination and vocabulary, plus my 6" vertical.
I am just below 6' 2" now. Shrinking as I get older. I am 70 now. In my playing days I was typically 220 lbs with a wide butt for boxing out and knew how to use it. Not a lot of vertical. Defensively I could frustrate much taller players in the paint with technique. I wasn't a guy that they could just over power and I could keep them from their preferred spot. And I could keep them off the boards with boxing out. Not super quick but could read body language to know what guys would do defending them face to face on the perimeter. As for PG skills I had to stop making no look passes to intramural teammates. They were not expecting them. I was good making them to guys that I played pick-up with on a regular basis. My intramural teams didn't have a lot of reps with me. They usually ended up with a ball bouncing off their chest or head. After I stopped playing hoops I started training for bike racing. Got down to 175 lbs. Got really fast and wondered if I should have done this sport a long time ago.
