Of course, if we played inn the SEC West with Alabama, I suspect our last division title would have been in 2008...

Not ragging on the OP, who is just reflecting what an article conveys, but to believe Norvell was "close" to taking the Bama jobs means you believe he was offered. Norvell was humiliated on December 30th, two days later Bama lost, Saban retired, then within 48 hours Deboer was hired. It comes across as if Norvell turned the job down, or was offered, didn't say "yes" and Bama moved on to Deboer, their second choice who in two seasons rose to a NC game coach. Not likely. Bama's Athletic Department would not be foolish enough to believe that a pretty good ACC season warrants serious consideration, top 3, to replace Saban.

I don't think Norvell is a bad coach because he recruits well, plays the portal very well unfortunately, and seems to have staff in place to do what is required, not a group of guys he's comfortable with and protects at the expense of the program itself. IMO he was at best 4th or 5th on the list.

I’d stay at FSU if I were him just like Bowden did. He’s got a good thing going for him right now and some job security. Bama it’s like you have to win a national championship in the first three years or you’re fired

Do you also want to be the guy that replaces a legendary coach? Or be the guy that follows the guy who replaced a legendary coach?

Also, Bama’s NIL set up is apparently not as advanced as some other major programs because they could get a discount by saying you are going to be coached by Saban and be in his system that has produce NFL daft picks for the last 15+ years. They are not use to paying market rates.

I don’t believe the article one bit and I’m not sure how good of a coach he is vs. it being players or assistants tbh. The only FSU game I’ll watch is when they play us. But in this day and age where players are hitting the portal at every school regardless of how good they are, it’s not toooooo far fetched for a great team to eye a coach who is pretty good at reloading a roster with portal players.

If he really was offered the job, he should have taken it.

We know he wasn’t. Bama got the coach they wanted.
