I knew you didn’t know what money laundering is, but thanks for clearing it up with everyone else.

More accurately called alternative facts. A week into his first administration Kellyanne Conway made it clear that alternative facts or what most people call lies would be the norm from Trump or anyone speaking on his behalf and he and Elon are following the game plan the second time around.

Adding that your definition of money laundering is money legally appropriated and spent on projects with which your disagree.

Maybe not, but it definitely is an asinine expenditure that should be tied up with a court stay until it can be better determined that it is an appropriate/effective use of tax funds and if not should be repealed by Congress.

I haven’t researched the grant recipient or grant conditions but the basic premise of the grant as I interpret it from the article is that it is a real stretch to have it fall within the parameters of the US constitution, which of course is how a lot of tax expenditures get appropriated and then spent/wasted. In summary, an asinine expenditure. Pissing in the wind against climate change…even if those winds might be getting stronger and more frequent these days.

You mean no grants for public welfare are constitutional?

    Well, why not?

I like green energy initiatives, but this feels redundant. Seems like more pork barrel graft from bidun on his way out of town. I won't even go into the efficiency questions concerning the expenditure.

You do realize that Congress specifically passed this in the IRA, right? Not saying they couldn’t change their mind and undo what they’ve passed but that seems unlikely. The courts are not going to overturn Congressional spending for general welfare. That’s already been ruled on.

This was passed in the IRA in 2022. The open period to apply for grants ended in November 2024. This has nothing to do with suddenly sending money after losing the election.

When did Biden "park" the $2B? The Eco grants weren't awarded by Biden until April 2024 and the nonprofit wasn't established until late in 2023. It only had a revenue of a $100M before the grant... It's a mess.

Tough to connect public welfare to carbon reduction IMHO, which is why I think it could be extra constitutional and could be undone by the current congress. Thinking the grant award process itself could have enough fault to warrant a stay, at least temporarily, to slow down the waste until it could be readdressed in Congress. $2B is worth reviewing.

It would be very tough to legally challenge that it’s not for general welfare regardless your feelings on carbon. Whether it is “extra constitutional” as you put it is irrelevant to Congress’s ability to pass or rescind a law. And your penultimate thought is mere speculation; actually that goes for the entire post. You still seem confused that it was Congress that passed the law allocating funds for this exact purpose. Of course the EPA audits its grant process, but there’s no indication there’s anything untoward in the grant process which approved money to all the local municipalities and groups.
