One of the things that was scary about a potential red waves was the promise of everyone they were going to punish. Politics by vendetta.

democrats also spent $$ to help some MAGA candidates win primaries hoping that MAGA would hurt them in the primary. Looks like Kari Lake is the only one of 7 who benefitted from dem spending that may win.

scary thing is that (politics by vendetta) is DeS to a T and he is advancing rapidly. I think he would beat Biden easily at this point

Yep, 'owning the libs' seems to be his primary asset.

I tend to agree with you, but there are 2 big unknowns

    1. Can Desantis in run against Trump survive with his nuts intact?
    2. How will Desantis play nationally with protracted intense media coverage. He doesn’t have a very likeable presence. I keep going back to Rick Perry as TX governor. Everybody thought he was this bad assed conservative. As a governor your media exposure is typically very selective. Once he got on national staged he came off as an oaf and an idiot.

I clearly think Desantis has more chops than Perry, but whether his angry little man God complex plays among swing voters nationwide remains to be seen.

I wonder how the 2% of votes that went to the Libertarian candidate will split? The bigger issue is probably who mobilizes voters better in four weeks though.

I was expecting a net Republican loss in the Senate and a greater margin of victory in the House.

Some "Trump candidates" are good, some are bad. If you lump DeSantis in, he performed great and is one of the leaders of the party at this point. Obviously some are really bad. Republicans need to continue to learn what made Trump so appealing in the first place while simultaneously avoiding his baggage. Seems like an ongoing struggle for them at this point.

A cording to 538, this is likely to be the r best mid term showing for an incumbent party since 1950. Despite Biden having terrible approval ratings, inflation, discord etc.
Really not a stretch to call last night awful for the Republicans. I would call it disastrous, but they look like they will get just enough to take the house. Senate favors the dems right now but not out of reach either.

DeSantis is the best example to date of taking Trump's advantages without his baggage, though he isn't perfect obviously.

Even if Desantis survived there is no way that Trump goes away quietly. Maybe he runs 3rd party?

    Unfortunately, you're probably right.

I still think Trump was good while he lasted, but he needs to go away now. He's become a lot more trouble than he's worth. The turning point for me was the day after the 2020 election.

Incorrect. People come to the defense of public schools because the attacks on them are politically misguided.

Had no clue Florida had an electoral college vote for governor. Oh wait. You just don’t know what you are talking about. Shoot…the gerrymandering gave us Corrine Brown (one the most embarrassing things from our state)….
