you see that shot at OU in his note too? "The ability to compete is all that anyone can ask for" comes off like he may have felt he wasn't getting a fair shot. I'm reaching but you never know
This aged well… there’s a reason Napier wasn’t making a lot of contact with this family when he took over. We don’t see the back end of communication. I don’t know how many parents I’ve had to tell shut up and let the player communicate when going through the recruiting process.. I’ve seen this more times then I can count where the parents are the ones ruining it for the player.
I think it was more of a test of sorts. See who would buy in immediately, obviously refusing such a simple request from a new incoming HC is a red flag.
He wanted to signed ESD and that wasn’t gonna happen with what CBN was envisioning so I understand. I think if he was Lagway, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Evers was fairly highly ranked Elite 11 QB from TX, which produces good QBs. You can see from departing OU after redshirt freshman year that he has an inflated opinion of himself. OU took several transfer QBs for a reason. One knew his OC’s system from UCF days. Mom is a nightmare and would be disruptive to team harmony. Next!
im glad I passed on the chance to hit on her lol jk. but yes, i think he would have done well to come to UF and wait a year before competing with the job. Sounds like they wanted to walk into a guaranteed starting job in Nick’s second year on whatever campus he was at. Ironically that would of been at UF. Mad that we told em we would take 2 QB’s in the 2022 cycle when they should have KNOWN it was gonna be a less heralded QB. He comes along and say we still end up with either Max Brown or Miller…and the prospects of THAT scaring him off/making him mad? Smh
I’m not sure how good he is. He did well on the circuit I guess, but his senior year was very bad. He would be a guy that gets processed out if we were serious.
When Napier took the job he eventually had an in-home visit with the Evers family. After that visit Evers decommitted from UF. That is all I remember.
Gotta give Napier some credit on this one. He took a lot of heat from Gator fans at the time, but like others have said, we don't know what goes on behind the scenes and maybe need to just trust the coach does. SMH at some of Dan Mullen's recruiting evaluations at the QB position outside of AR, and he wasted that guy for a year in favor of Jones.
Not by me, the kid and his mother reminded me of Josh Portis and that whole situation... with less skills.
