Given 12 teams in next year‘s playoffs if your team is in the playoffs do you think as many players even if they’re projected as high NFL draft picks will opt out of games? Thoughts?
I would think less since the playoff system will be like a new Christmas toy and more players will want to go through the process of it,..... Or, maybe they think that with more playoff games there will be more opportunities to get injured..... Who knows..... College ball ain't what it used to be.... GO GATORS!!!!
I can't imagine many opt outs for playoffs. I'm guessing even most portal players will stick around to play and then exit when the season is over.
Guys will still opt out, starters probably won't but backups won't care about titles and stuff when they can get in the portal and get paid to start somewhere else. Every man for himself.
Opt outs generally fall into two categories. 1) NFL draftees: I bet you see very few of these guys (if any) opt out of playoff games over the next several years. 2) Transfer portal guys: I think you'll continue to see playoff teams lose players to the portal. Today look at a guy like Malik Murphy, #2 QB for Texas is not on the roster today because he transferred to Duke. If players want to go through spring practice at their new school, they have to enroll in January, which is why the portal opens up in mid-December. I don't know if there's an obvious fix to the calendar to get around this.
IMHO I think the real NFL prospects will opt out. The playoff bound Championship Game losers could play a 17 game season. For a title the NFL cares nothing about. The only way they won’t is when the University employee and Unions finally arrive. Then we’ll just have NFL Light.
