I haven't seen a discussion on next year's squad for the women. Kelly has 8 returning scholarship players if no one enters the portal. I know Paige is technically on scholarship but not counting her. Aliyah Matharu, Alberte Rimdal, Kenza Salgues, Laila Reynolds, Jeriah Warren, Alexia Dizeko, Eriny Kindred, and Rashaya Kyle all return. Kelly adds an outstanding freshmen class with Liv McGill and Me'arah O'Neal (Shaq's daughter), as well as Kylee Kitts who reclassified to the '24 class. That's still room for 4 players before any possible attrition through the portal. There is some elite talent on the roster, but depth and youth in the paint are a concern. IMO, Kelly needs about 3 players from the portal: a true point guard that allows Matharu to focus more on scoring, an experienced post player, and an elite scorer on the wing to replace Correa. I'd be surprised if we didn't lose a couple as well. Everyone does, but we can't lose 5 again. Personally, I'd love to see a veteran assistant brought on staff as well... à la Julie Plank. We have to get more consistent.Obviously some work to do, but if Kelly secures a nice transfer class then she will have a lot of talent to work with next season. It will be year 4 so making the NCAA needs to happen, especially with the talent acquired. Curious to hear what others think about next season's squad.
I hope we can add a quality, experienced big from the portal. The interior, to me, has been the difference between the Gators and the top half of the SEC for a number of years.
There is an opening to go out and get a proven assistant now. Tamisha Augustin Named Hampton's Head Women's Basketball Coach - Hampton University Athletics
You would hope a losing program would have greater coaching stability as they build. Happy when Assistant Coaches can become a HC. Perhaps someone from Meyers Miami staff we can pick up now that she is retiring?
If it was me I'd throw money at Plank again. Not sure what the circumstances were when she left though. I'd also give a serious look at someone who is an offensive mind... Melanie Balcomb maybe.
Fitzroy Anthony Fitzroy Anthony would be a great choice if available and not retained by Miami. Knows Florida and region from a recruiting perspective. Good coach and recruiter. Unclear if a male would be good for program with UF ladies bb recent history.
Berte is gone to the portal, great young lady but her shooting is her thing and it just has gotten to inconsistent.
I cant imagine us letting her go if we did not have a good replacement in mind or already have one lined up. I heard this was us telling her that room wasnot available for her to get a lot of PT next year. So I am very interested in seeing what happens
Green Wave Head Coach Lisa Stockton Announces Retirement - Tulane University Athletics (tulanegreenwave.com) Might this be a possibility to bring in some experience on the staff?
Not sure about that. Don't think she'd retire to be an assistant at a school to which she has no connections. You never know. I do wonder if we will hear something soon.
Lady Vols fire head coach Kellie Harper after five seasons - ESPN This is 100% Kara Lawson's job right?
Kentucky women's basketball: Cats introduce new coach Kenny Brooks (cincinnati.com) Yeah, this league is going to be real tough in the coming seasons. This is an awesome hire by Kentucky.
Kelly's job didn't get easier the last few weeks. UT is probably getting Kara and Brooks is an amazing coach for UK.
