Flash bangs are phosphorous and magnesium. They actually burn pretty dang hot. I'd think a better approach in a situation like this is cut the lights and go in with NODs if there are no windows in the classroom.
That’s a nice idea, but might not be as useful if there’s daylight penetration into a the room being breached. I prefer flash bangs because of the stunning effect, but you point is well-received. I would imagine that unless the grenade toss is a direct hit or very close to a hostage, the chances of burning are low or negligible, considering what’s at stake.
