If this was posted then mods please delete, but the new footage showing the LEOs retreating and just taking cover for an hour in the hallway is overwhelmingly disturbing. I don’t know whether they were told to stand down or just fled in cowardice, but I don’t have words for grown men in full kit taking cover while 911 calls come in and kids assassinated. I have worked and trained with LEOs from local to federal and can’t imagine any of them standing down. Heartbreaking to watch.

Every single one of those cops is afraid of that kid with an AR-15. Time to quit selling the damn things. Period.

Can’t imagine that detail would not have come out by now if true. I’m guessing the acoustics in the hall just make it sound that way.

The LEOs definitely were not there ‘to protect and serve’ anything other than their own lives.
    Sad and pathetic.

I haven't seen the video, no real desire to, but someone pointed out somewhere that one of the cops had a Punisher background on his phone. Ironic

It is understandable to acknowledge that assaulting a defended /hardened position with unknown number and position/location of the children is a tall order, but doctrine on tactics has long been established to push forward post haste. Someone should have rallied those men, especially when they heard continuous discharge of that rifle.

They should be fired and if possible, charge them.

The phrase "not your emergency" gets taught in some police, medical and fire academies. I believe it has been misinterpreted and mangled from its initial intent which is to teach people not to be reckless and emotional when responding to calls. Instead we have a bubble wrapped generation of responders who are consumed with safety protocols. Mitigating risk does not mean zero risk. I cannot stand this type of thinking but I can see it as part of the problem in Uvalde.

Diffusion or responsibility is a problem here as well.

We have a cop in my city's department who took a direct shot to the chest/vest and refused to stop engaging his assailant to get medical treatment. There are a handful of guys like this in all fields. The rest are just bodies and many who we call instagram cops, fire and medics.

It always starts at the top including city leadership and department administrators.

Again, I think there is a total lack of mental preparation for what one may ACTUALLY encounter in these fields. Plenty of scenarios and trainings but they are worthless without really preparing oneself mentally for the hottest of situations. Just my opinion as a 13 yr fire/medic at a busy dept.

My understanding was that there has been testimony that the situation commander onsite ordered them to wait. Was this not the case? Additionally, they disarmed and escorted the officer that had a wife in the school away from the scene.

I think it would have been hard for me to do so as a trained officer knowing what was going on, but should we crucify all these officers for following the orders of the individual in charge? If they had ignored orders and made the situation worse, they would definitely been crucified and possibly prosecuted.

Its almost impossible to convict a cop of shooting an unarmed guy in cold blood, and you're telling me you are worried about cops being prosecuted for ignoring an order to save some kids?

Its easy to sit here and second guess. I honestly don't know what I would have done. I hope I would remind myself that I trained and put on that uniform knowing such a day might come, and that I'd have the courage to risk my own life to save others......like those heroes - the true heroes - UNC regularly tells us about. Those men should have to!d whoever told them to stand down to go {blank} himself and gone to help save those children.

I could only watch a couple minutes of the video.

You can sense their fear in the video. The one cop goes flying away from the door once the shooter opens fire because he realizes he's outgunned. Absolutely pathetic.

The officers had rifles inside the school almost immediately after the shooter entered. I think it was the school sheriff (chief?) who claimed they were outgunned. Apparently he has resigned.

This whole police reaction was such a cluster f- and why I refuse to outsource my personal and family security to a government entity.

Reporter did wrong here. Families had not seen the video. Press should have offered families right to review privately with counselors prior to releasing this. At a minimum, they should have stripped the soundtrack. Not sure how any rational person could live with themselves after cowering and allowing that to happen. Maybe all 3 get shot, maybe all 3 die, odds are 1 of them had a good chance to end it. Sickening
