Sometimes less. As much as we love it Football has the lowest percentage of active action in all sports at around 5%. As much as some complain about baseball being slow it at least clocks in at 10%.
Our form of governance has nothing to do with these new rules. It's all about shortening the game... and it's about spreading the wealth.
So... now it goes down to 4%, and that seems acceptable? I don't know if that's what you meant but less hair blazing, rip our shirt off, jump up and hit your head on the ceiling fan blades, screaming excitement, is NOT good.
Exactly. Any rule designed to shorten the game that doesn't address reducing the amount of commercials isn't worth the paper it's written on.
Make as much as you can, as fast as you can while providing as little as possible in return. Unfortunately, far too many live by this new golden rule.
The commercial breaks for me to pee at home aren’t bad. Sitting in the seats watching that stupid commercial clock wind down is seriously irritating. Add one more a quarter please. We can spend half the day watching a clock.
Just pointing out a random factoid in response to the other guys question. I’m with you; these rules suck.
Soccer is another game that as a fan you have to entertain yourself or watching paint dry would be more fun. Baseball can be boring for a fan in attendance but soccer is worse if the crowd isn't into it. It's all about the crowd when it comes to soccer.
Same. There's better things to do than sitting around watching commercials. Heck, the football has been bad enough in recent years that I ff through some of that, too.
You make a great point. It is not just sports. When my favorite show was "Mad Men" they actually shortened the show by a few minutes to add commercial time because of the popularity. Despite beliefs to the contrary, Capitalism often does not create the best product.
Giving that notion some thought, I would say that depends. In terms of football, I agree, the addition of more commercials does not translate into an improved product on the field without doing some serious mental gymnastics. But in terms of a show like Mad Men, maybe it does. Maybe those commercial dollars contributed to a larger budget for better sets, wardrobe, writers, etc.
I want alot of things in life, a shorter college football game is not one of them. I think the change to the clock stopping on a first down is going to have a huge impact. That's part of college football and what keeps teams in the games as well as something that sets it apart from the NFL. Fix something that actually needs fixing, like instant replay and terrible officiating.
