Katie Turner and Bri Wade in recruiting may be the best hires yet. These two get rave reviews frequently. As for on field coaching, it’s hard to argue against Billy Gonzales with the way our WRs were playing compared to the end of the Mullen tenure. You could be right, these are after all, opinions. I hope you’re correct and we see a strengthening of our defense.
Odd priorities? Not saying that offense couldn't be improved with a true OC and, God knows, we need help with Special Teams but if fixing the Defense isn't the single biggest priority then you haven't been watching Gator football the last five+ seasons.
Yes it's odd. Hire an offensive coordinator like every other successful coach. Then focus your efforts as HC on managing the team and mentoring your very junior defensive coordinator. Seems more in line with normal practices than making up new 'executive head coach for the defense' jobs. Maybe demote the DC and hire this guy as the DC. My point is if everyone on your level (top 20 compensation coaches) is succeeding except you and you're doing things differently perhaps it's time to ask why you choose to do so.
And if we hired Will Muschamp as OC and Todd Grantham as DC there would be another set of idiots lining up to praise those hires. You just have to ignore them.
In that context, I agree that it's odd. I interpreted your comment as if it were odd that Napier was focusing on Defense. At this point it looks like Napier is going to fall on his sword on offense unless he can find a can't miss OC. Not sure who that would be.
Looks like a good hire. Now BN needs to hire a play caller so he can concentrate on strategy and managing the game.
I assume that he is EHC because that allows him to leave Auburn for a promotion and not be subject to buyout provisions. Common tactic. I think it is pretty clear that he's coming in to run his defense since AA coached under him at Louisiana
Roberts has been around a lot of programs and HC personalities. Freeze must really be tough to work with for him to burn a bridge like that.
I tend to agree. It's kind of a demotion without appearing to be a demotion since last year you were the DC, this year's hire seems to be above you. I think AA will learn from this guy, probably likes him and sees this as great opportunity to learn.
BN should have fired AA and several assistants, PERIOD! It appears to me that BN didn't have the nuggets to fire AA. Instead, he chose to bring in an elder to mentor AA. Our defense was historically bad. LSU's defense sucked and BK made the proper decision to make wholesale changes. BN has yet to address, much less admit, that ST is a problem. I'm scared to death for what the future holds based on BN's "Process."
He made wholesale changes. I know he didn't fire every single person but, almost everyone. I would say he addressed the defense.
