Roberts was the highest paid assistant coach on Freeze's inaugural staff at Auburn, making $1.4 million annually. He was also set to receive a $100,000 raise every Feb. 1, beginning this year.
He did call a boneheaded play against Alabama on that infamous 4th and 31, rushing only two linemen. Other than that, I don't know anything about him. I'm optimistic he's at least an upgrade.
I saw that article... interesting. I'll have to read-up on this coach. But that article is pretty enlightening. I think we have a good one.
One of the coaches listed in the recruitment for Jamonta Waller to Auburn. Not saying that's bad, just interesting if others are suggesting there was a plan. Remember I don't think we expected the loss of Bateman, so we weren't exactly lining up an open slot for him. It had been reported that Auburn had hired Colorado's defensive coordinator Charles Kelly to a yet as of unnamed role (assumed to be at least co-DC with RR). Maybe RR didn't like that arrangement or just wanted to reunite with AA and Napier over continuing with Freeze. The "early" Kelly hire is interesting though. No way Kelly was going from Colorado just to be a position coach at Auburn. Maybe an Auburn fan closer to rumors and speculation since Kelly's hiring can offer some insight. I like the hire - not flashy, but could lead to the quickest results and offer the most cohesion with Armstrong.
You mean Chief Executive Officer of Offense/ Director of Passing and Rushing Operations/ Assistant to the Assistant Head Coach.
So uf has a defensive coordinator executive head coach for defense but no offensive coordinator. Odd priorities here. Maybe a competent person at both coordinator positions rather than new creatively named "executive" jobs? Sounds like this guy is the real defensive coordinator.
I don’t think this is a demotion for AA or a commentary on him in any way. They needed a grizzled vet AND youthful energy. I love the combo. I’m not a fan of hiring 30-year journeymen - it’s the NFL model- but in this case, we needed both elements. Chapman, Harris, MikePete, AA, Roberts… I think we’ve got a quality staff that will bring new energy and perspective without changing terminology or communication on gameday the way you’d see if you brought in a new DC altogether
If we hire Belichick as DC and Saban as OC there will be the idiots lining up to badmouth the hires GO GATORS
They only rushed two and gave the QB way to much time. Hard to cover someone that long and with no pressure the QB is much more likely to make a good throw. I have no problem with the hire and I am sure he is good at his job. I just don't agree on the way he defensed that last play.
I really like the hire. Two important things I like in a coordinator: 1) A record of dramatically improving their side of the ball 2) SEC Experience, especially in their current role We have both of those in Roberts.
