Sounds like a much needed course to me---

New Florida law requires high schoolers to take financial literacy class
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Starting this fall, all ninth graders in Florida will need to take a financial literacy course before they can graduate high school.

A new state law is requiring this course and there’s a wide range of topics being covered, from money management to taxes and managing debt.

Been saying we need this for years. Great job whoever finally did it. I'd rather kids learn about taxes and interest rates than ancient Greek Mythology.

It was rolled into the required Economics class prior to this. I’m wondering how they’re going to make this an 18 week course for 9th graders. I’m assuming they’ll replace Career research and bundle it all together.

That makes sense on the econ front.

Yeah, the actual course name was Economics and Financial Literacy. They’ve been talking about this change for awhile.

I will be the dissenter. I have gone to fundraisers trying to hit up the business community for the people who put together these curricula. They shouldn't have really needed fundraisers, because they had a lot of private funding from those like Mercatus. There's some good stuff in there, which no doubt will help, but it's overlaid with Ayn Rand agitprop

Every Econ class I ever took, whether high school or at UF, was always very skewed towards pro-free market capitalism. Lots of Adam Smith Invisible Hand stuff.

It's why I always laugh when posters here talk about all the left wing indoctrination in schools. Not that I saw.

100%, we need a "Dont say Pay" law to stop this indoctrination

Truth. And there's something to that. At least with some balance. But you don't get any balance from what I've seen in the specific financial literacy presentations. It's more like teaching you to be an accepting consumer/prey

I found a copy of the button you get with your diploma when you graduate from this course IMG_20230623_091234688.jpg IMG_20230623_091234688.jpg

Teaching Adam Smith and free market capitalism, is explaing how our system works; seems appropriate for students in classrooms in the USA--not 'indoctrination'.

If someone wants to learn other sysyems, let them sign up for 'comparative economic systems' or 'survey of different econ sysyms' or such.

Conservatives have been talking about this for decades.

Hat tip to RonnyD for finally getting it done.

(...again, as I've said repeatedly--RonnyD is a mixed bag; does a lot of solid things...does some...not-so-solid to dubious things. This one seems to be pretty solid imo).

It wasn't just teaching about it, at least not at UF. My advanced international econ professors (past entry level classes) at UF were cheerleaders for Free Market laissez fare capitalism. I'm not mad about it, but it definitely wasn't just teaching about our system.

What the hell does that even mean???

That's even more disjointed and off the mark than 'don't say gay', which is about the only connection I can discern from your pathetic attempt at a play on words.
