New Florida curriculum says slavery had “personal benefits” for slaves

I suppose they'd say that prison time provided "personal benefits" to convicts if they learned how to make license plates.

 

Extremely insensitive/racist thing to put in the curriculum. I read through the curriculum and there are a few major issues that a few have pointed out. Need those corrected asap.

 

No. They are not. They know what they are doing. They are evil. They are like evil people before them. You see what they do as sick. They see a base of deplorables who are just like them and it is their path to power.

They are teaching the antebellum view if the south.

 

seems like nothing more than demanding that teachers teach that slavery wasn't all that bad. there were plenty of good things about it, too.

 

Of course they stayed in the south. And did what they knew how to do. Because that was all they were taught. They weren’t taught to read, be accountants or lawyers or principles of business. That were taught to be slaves and when fees, continued to have the mentality. And teaching that blacks remained in the south and did what they knows is not the same of the course. The lessons are racist.

 

This is the viewpoint of Hillsdale College. They had a heavy influence on these standards. It was also part of the civics seal program.

That’s part of the complexity of history, especially the history involving slavery. Chattel slavery was a heinous system and the Atlantic Crossing horrendous. But the descendants of those slaves brought to America today enjoy the privilege of being Americans.

Also, I think it’s ridiculous to claim learning blacksmithing is a benefit of being a slave. That’s like saying a benefit of living under Hitler was availability of Volkswagens.

What would be wrong with teaching the curriculum from the 1980's in school? We learned that slavery happened, it consisted of terrible living conditions for the slaves, had economic benefit for the white plantation owners and that it didn't get really any better for black people after the civil war.
